Is Nalyssa Smith's future with the Aces in jeopardy after her latest social media controversy?

Indiana Fever forward, NaLyssa Smith is fresh off a memorable performance, having contributed 8 points with six rebounds. To make it even better, the Indiana Fever won the game and secured their No. 6 seed in the playoffs. You might not have known it after the fact—at least not if you were tracking Fever forward NaLyssa Smith’s Twitter activity!

After the most recent game against the Dallas Wings, Smith came roaring out of the gates. “See what happens when my girl gets some touches,” wrote DiJonai Carrington, who has been in a relationship with her for about 2 years. Unfortunately, the Fever forward’s run didn’t last long for the game. Smith was removed in the third quarter and never made it back.

Fun while it lasted, babe,” read Smith’s post-game statement in reply. The post was deleted later on. But a couple of days later, Smith posted a partying emoji on X once again.

This time, she kept it brief while responding to Queen Egbo’s contract signing with the Las Vegas Aces for the remainder of the season. It marked the second time the backup center for the Aces had signed a 7-day contract. For the Aces, Egbo is important as she provides depth in the frontcourt.

So far, she has only made an appearance for the final 56 seconds of the Aces’ loss to the No. 1 Liberty on Sunday. Before that, she had split time between the Sparks and the Connecticut Sun on a hardship contract. However, it seems she may soon find stability with the Aces. Smith’s reaction to that seems to have dropped a rather intriguing idea in fans’ heads. More so, with the deleted remark.

Fans want to see them back together

While some were concerned about Queen Egbo’s recent contract, others were eagerly awaiting her to join the Aces’ lineup. “Lyss for Aces,” penned one user on X, eagerly awaiting Smith’s transfer from the Fever to the Aces, either this season or the next. It’s likely because she hasn’t found much opportunities to take to the court this season, seeing a dip in her minutes per game from 30.7 to 24.9.

Are you next?” wrote another, reading into the text. When she was drafted, Smith averaged 13.5 points, which improved last year to 15.5. However, since the arrival of the rookie star, her scoring has decreased to 10.5 points per game.

Prior to the celebratory post for Queen Egbo, Smith also retweeted an LV Aces’ clip, captioning, “Damn,” with a tear-eyed emoji as the team celebrated A’ja Wilson’s recent feat. That would again prompt a few to ask the forward to join the team. “We got a spot for you Lys,” a comment read, likely because of the dissatisfaction her now-deleted post hinted at.

However, there was another to clarify that Smith was just happy for Queen Egbo, whom she played with in Baylor. “putting their hoods on ready to jump in the comments loud & wrong. NaLyssa AND Queen BOTH played at Baylor TOGETHER,” one provided.

Egbo and Smith not only made it as the Lady Bears the same year — 2018 — they also announced for the draft together in 2022. While Smith was the second overall pick by the Indiana Fever, the former would join her only minutes later as the 10th pick by the same team. They also went on to make the All Rookie team and were only separated next year, when Egbo was traded to the Washington Mystics.

So simply cheering on the forward and her of her role with the Fever was another user. “YOU…… will be extremely important in the playoffs. YOU….. we’ll make the difference.” For Smith, it’s a clear symbol that no matter what anyone says, there will still be fans who back her up. What do you think? Comment down below!
