Can Flau'jae Johnson's challenge to Kahleah Copper spark a new era of competitive spirit in the WNBA?

It is hard to get under the skin of Phoenix Mercury star, Kahleah Copper. However, looks like the Lady Tiger Flau’jae Johnson has the WNBA player right where she wanted. While we have often seen the Las Vegas Aces and the Chicago Sky have some fun with each other, the Mercury is not the team you would think about when “fun” is the keyword. Still, they do have some instances of complete entertainment like Copper had with Johnson.

Flau’jae Johnson recently launched her new podcast Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae and has been killing it in the field. Her recent target for a fun game was Mercury’s star guard Kahleah Copper. During their conversations, the Lady Tiger asked Kah to describe her teammates in one word. The pro athlete followed through as she gave the rest of the Phoenix team a word. For Natasha Cloud, it was “Dawg!” Indeed, we have seen how swiftly the former Lynx has adapted to her new home and has been a great energy on the veteran roster.

Before giving a word to her fellow Olympian Diana Taurasi, Kah laughed and said“Oh D! Man! Imma describe D, crazy.” Going on the same note, she gave Brittney Griner, “Silly.” The seasoned Mercury stars deservedly got these names. While Taurasi might be all-serious most of the time, she does love to entertain others. As for Griner, well, she has a newborn at home, and we can understand why “pops” has to be on daddy duty at all times.

The 2021 WNBA champ further gave tags of “spicy” to Sophie Cunningham and “funny” to Natasha Mack. Rebecca Allen, who unfortunately will be missing from the Opals this Olympics, got a “chill” for herself. But talking about nerves, Kahleah Copper had something to tell her trollers.

Kahleah Copper claps back at the “ain’t worth it” trollers

While many might only know Diana Taurasi on the Mercury to have the “say-it-like-it-is” attitude, the team’s leading scorer is also in the queue. The electric forward has often received backlash despite performing at a top-notch level. In fact, the first time Olympian had to respond to one of the X users asking them to take her off their list.

Hence, when Flau’jae Johnson asked her about the hate that she has gotten over the years, Copper had just one thing to say. Trying to calm herself down, she said, “They getting out of hands. I can’t even tell y’all what they saying on the air. They crazy!” Discussing how she reacts at times, Kah added, “If they real one, I just start to grinding them up.” Still, the veteran player added, “You got to let it go. Ain’t worth it.”

Have an interesting take?

The entire conversation brings back the memory of how uncomfortable Kahleah Copper can truly make a person feel when they get on her nerves. Just like the time a reporter asked her about the bench players. Then, she explained how all they need to do is score points, to make points. It will be a really interesting time in Paris as this star joins Team USA on their quest for their eighth gold.
