Is Lisa Leslie right to throw shade at the LA Sparks while praising Angel Reese's All-Star feat?

Today’s a big day for Angel Reese! Since being picked as WNBA draft no.7 pick, Reese’s graph has been consistently seeing an upsurge in growth. And, fortunately, her hard work has finally paid off. Rookie of the month for June, Reese was the 5th vote-getter on the All-Star list with 381,518 votes. To congratulate ‘Chi-town Barbie’s big achievement, fans and family dived into the comment section with heartfelt greetings. But, one of them was a standout.

Right from being drafted as the WNBA’s no.7 overall pick, there’s a person who consistently speaks up in favor of Reese. This time too, Lisa Leslie congratulated Reese’s big win. She wrote, “@Reese10Angel I’m so proud of you! Congratulations on your first All-Star! I told you! They will all regret passing on you”

The WNBA legend Leslie had expressed her disbelief when the Maryland native was placed outside the top five picks of the WNBA draft. She said, “I don’t know what these people are talking about (Reese) dropping in the draft. To have that ability to rebound the ball- regardless of her ability to score- to get five offensive rebounds and 20 rebounds in a game!? That’s the difference in winning championship rings.” Several media analysts widely projected Reese to go either at No. 7 or No.8  as they deemed her lack of perimeter shooting as a primary reason why she would be picked up after forwards like Rickea Jackson and Kamilla Cardoso.

Hence, Leslie’s remark of “regret passing on you” is her taking a direct shot at her former team the LA Sparks which snubbed the LSU Tigers star for Cameron Brink. But the question is: is Reese really deserving?

From making history to iconic teamup

Since being drafted at No. 7, Reese has been an outstanding performer for the Chicago Sky. So far, Reese has averaged an impressive 13.2 points and 11.8 rebounds per game this season. In the last matchup, she accumulated 12 points and 19 rebounds to help her team win against the Atlanta Dream.

Above all, Reese is the first rookie in the history of the WNBA to record 11 consecutive double-doubles. Now that she’s listed as the 5th highest vote-getter on the All-Star list, she will soon pair up with her longtime rival, Caitlin Clark. Notably, this All-Star roster is scheduled to face off against this year’s Team USA roster.

Led by A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, Team USA will be coming up for an All-Star game at Footprint Center on July 20. It will be the first time in history that Clark will accompany Reese to add points to the team’s total. But the question is: will this unique collaboration be able to take over a team of veterans heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics?
