Is the criticism of Lexie Brown's NBA 2K24 look justified, or are fans overreacting?

The NBA 2K25 is far more interesting, and so is the WNBA edition. Last year, however, was not so great for the Sparks star Lexie Brown. After almost two decades, the brand made an impressive move by launching a different component for women’s professional basketball in 2019. Unfortunately, it ended up featuring a poor image of the WNBA star in 2023. Even months after calling out the brand of it, the bizarre image almost frightened her again.

In a recent segment of the Gils Arena podcast, Brown expressed that her only concern with the game is to look good in it. And that is when the host, Josiah Johnson, pulled out her 2K image from last year.

“That’s so rude. They didn’t even give me hair…I just look like a swamp creature or something,” Brown almost yelled criticizing the design, via Gils Arena. Brown shared that she needs another face scan to ensure that the image is done the right way this year. “I haven’t gotten my face scan since my second season. They have like a big truck, okay, and you just go inside and do it.”

The image didn’t show Brown’s eyelashes or her hair, which she had wanted to be styled in a ponytail. Furthermore, her eyes didn’t look the same at all. Understandably, she is disturbed by the image. The good news is that Brown pointed out the issue immediately after the images were released by the company.

Lexie Brown criticised the NBA 2K game for bizarre image

Soon after the release, Brown took to social media to express her frustration with the lack of effort put into the image.

She clarified that the game shouldn’t have included the WNBA if the images weren’t done correctly. The image looked vastly different from her actual appearance. Speaking of it, she detailed, “We’ve been in 2K the last two or three 2K’s and we got face-scanned, they make us look okay,” on TikTok.

While it’s challenging for the design team to achieve 100% accuracy in recreating players into images for the game, the continuous updates have been helpful. Alongside the old version, Johnson also showed her the latest iteration of the 2K game, which she approved.

Brown also praised Angel Reese’s image from the game as a great representation. A’ja Wilson is on the cover page of the WNBA edition while Celtics champ Jayson Tatum makes it to the NBA cover. Previously, we have seen that NBA 2K was quick to address the issue, and Brown noticed the same. As for fans, they would hope that the brand listens to Brown’s concern and takes appropriate action.
