Indiana and LA faced off each other for the second time in less than a week. The last time these two were on opposite ends, Caitlin Clark turned out to be their catalyst behind securing their first win of the season. She showcased something similar in front of a sold-out crowd at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse today.
Clark presented a classic example of her defensive as well as offensive prowess only within the first half. With just over a minute into the second quarter and the hosts trailing 24-17, Caitlin Clark grabbed a defensive rebound after blocking Li Yueru ‘s 7-foot two-point shot.
Following this, she rushed towards the other end of the court and through an assist by Lexie Hull connected a stunning 28-foot three-point shot. This moment was enough to blow the roof of the place as the atmosphere was absolutely deafening. Moreover, it also helped the Fever to reduce their opening quarter deficit of 9 points to just 5 points at the halfway stage. Consequently, the 6-foot guard finished the first half with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

Things were no different in the second half. The NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer led an 11-0 run very early in the third quarter. But, the visitors kept coming back and overcame every challenge put forth by the Fever. For the third consecutive quarter, Caitlin Clark and Co. trailed by the end of the 10 minutes. Eventually, it was all too much for them in the penultimate quarter and Clark’s best efforts couldn’t prevent Indiana’s 7th loss of the season.
Come what may, the evening resulted in the best individual performance for the No.1 overall draft pick.
Caitlin Clark runs a one-woman show
The 22-year-old delivered her most productive evening in terms of numbers. As it turns out, Caitlin Clark scored a career-high 30 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds in the 34 minutes she spent on the hardwood. This exhibition provided a perfect blend of her offensive and defensive capabilities as 3 block shots and 3 steals perfectly complimented all her defensive boards.
Moreover, she shot 7 of 16 from the field and was 3 of 10 from beyond the arc. What really set everything apart was her conversion from the free throw line. Apparently, she capitalized on 13 out of her 15 attempts. “I think I just played with an aggressive mindset,” she spoke of the performance. “I think that was the biggest thing — to play downhill the best I could.”
