“Let’s go Sun!” the crowd chanted loudly when Alyssa Thomas grabbed her 10th rebound of the night. And with that, the Connecticut Sun concluded a remarkable season opener, defeating Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever with a 92-71 on the scoreboard. As for Thomas, she impressively registered the season’s first triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists. What a night for a seasoned pro!
However, it isn’t new for Alyssa Thomas to dish out a stat line like that. Reportedly, she made a record 6 triple-doubles in the 2023 season. More so, she became the first player in the league to score 20+ points, 20+ rebounds, and 10+ assists in a single game. Now, let’s dig in and get to know this trailblazing star.

“I think a lot of people think (2023) was a fluke. They think that it’s a season I can’t repeat or something that was lucky. But that’s been my game my whole entire life, and I plan on continuing to push the limits and do it my way,” said Thomas after concluding a remarkable 2023 WNBA season. Her last season’s stats read as career-highs of the WNBA career. More so, she registered a remarkable single-season tally of 600+ points, 300 rebounds, and 300 assists.
Undoubtedly, the number of achievements Alyssa Thomas has amassed in her WNBA career so far, she is truly an unsung hero. However, all those first-teams and all-stars couldn’t lead her to one of W’s most prestigious titles, i.e. the MVP.
Although the disappointment was not new. “I think I’m used to it. I think I’ve been snubbed so many times in my career that it’s a normal feeling for me. It is what it is. We keep going,” Thomas expressed her thoughts after the Sun was eliminated from the 2023 WNBA finals at the hands of the New York Liberty.
However, going into the season with her gritty moves does give high hopes to the Sun’s head coach, Stephanie White as she says, “She’s someone who has such a high basketball IQ. She’s got a great understanding. She understands people’s tendencies and strengths and weaknesses. Being able to bounce things off of her, being able to challenge her to help us get to another level … I think it’s now how can she elevate everybody else around her?”

After that, she continued her journey and decided to play for the Maryland Terrapins. Building an illustrious career there, she again achieved a similar feat as she did in high school, by becoming the team’s all-time leader in scores, garnering 2356 points, 1235 rebounds, and 66 double-doubles throughout her NCAA career.
Now her freshly dropped triple-double feat indicates how much the veterans are waiting to lead the season, which can potentially break off the hype created around this year’s rookie class of generational talent.
