An early celebration came to an immediate pause when Angel Reese turned up her intensity. Giving the Wintrust Arena an impeccable view, she did anything and everything to turn a losing game into a big win. But seems like she could not keep herself away from all the attention. Or did she? Tonight, it was not Caitlin Clark or Chennedy Carter involved in the trash-talking. It was Kim Mulkey’s other former student, NaLyssa Smith. The discussion between the two became an entertaining X factor for the fans as both the hoopers waved a referee off.

During the fourth quarter in yesterday’s game, NaLyssa Smith got to guard the former Lady Tiger. Without a doubt, the two kept coming at each other. However, a referee picked up one similar instance and hastily came to the Baylor alumna’s protection. But the two turned the referee away, saying that they were simply talking.

After they went away, Angel Reese asked the official from afar if everything was good with raised thumbs. It was a pleasant sight to see that they both give off fiery competitiveness but understand that at the end of the day, it is just a game of basketball. Consequently, the fans could not help but remind others that these two WNBA stars come from Kim Mulkey’s tutelage.

Fans “looooove” what Angel Reese and NaLyssa Smith had for them

Everybody knows that the Chi-Town Barbie can talk trash. But doing that with a three-year veteran comes as a surprise to many. However, for women’s basketball followers, it was just another example of how the WNBA operates. One fan said just that in their long comment as they mentioned everything they loved in yesterday’s matchup. They said that people can hate Angel Reese.

However, they also mentioned that her fieriness and relentlessness are what the league really needs. At the same time, they also praised Smith for not letting the officials come in between and escalating the situation. According to them, both the opponents showed that apart from what goes on the floor, they also have to play a mental game.

“I looooove this. You can hate Reese all you want, but that competitive spirit is what we say, we want in our athletes. I love that Smith didn’t let Ref Karen come over there and try to protect her. We good over here…just two athletes playing the mental the game of ball.”

Another fan jumped into the discussion to laugh at the fact that only Kim Mulkey’s students can first start an argument and not let the authorities come in between. NaLyssa Smith played under the now LSU WBB’s head coach Kim Mulkey when she was at Baylor. The two won a National Championship back in 2019. Similarly, Angel Reese too has won an NCAA DI championship title with Mulkey in LSU.

“Those Are @KimMulkey Kids Lol”

A basketball fan came to express their reaction to the entire incident. For them, it was funny that both WNBA stars asked the referee to go away. They clearly loved their competitiveness in the intense game where Angel Reese recorded her 8th consecutive double-double. On the other hand, while Smith could not grab a double-double, she did add 12 points and 7 rebounds.

“This is so funny. They shoo’ed the referee. Two competitors chopping it up. It’s a competitive game and I love it.”

The two forwards love being in the face of their opponents. Something similar was happening Sunday afternoon as the two looked like they would square off against each other, making another non-basketball play-related headline. However, they laughed it off and also asked the referee to not do anything about it. This is exactly what one fan loved as they mentioned the same in their comment as well.

“This what you call grown woman stuff , I love to see it . They act like they was about to fist fight or was squaring up”

Fouls have become a common thing for Angel Reese now. They are even bigger when it comes to her matching up against her NCAA rival, Caitlin Clark. In fact, just in their last face-off, the 6-ft-3 Baltimore native had exclaimed how some people got a special whistle. Hence, one fan suggested that with this conversation also coming onto the radar, the LSU alum must have been frightened that she would again get a whistle.

“Angel was like whoa we just talking, getting her worried they’ll try foul her 😭”

After Sunday’s game, Chicago cut the season series deficit to 2-1. They will have one more chance to either balance the slate or prove who is better after the Olympics break. While nothing can confirm who wins the off-court outfit battle in the tunnel, Angel Reese or Caitlin Clark, time will surely tell who is better on the floor.
