There are not many people that LSU legend Angel Reese looks up to in the basketball world. While everyone is aware of the special father-daughter bond between Reese and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, she receives a lot of motherly vibes from her head coach, Kim Mulkey. The 3x All-American added further light to it as soon as she was drafted by the Chicago Sky. In a rather hysterical turn of events involving her and Mulkey, Chicago head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was at the receiving end of a clear warning.
It is safe to say that the 2024 WNBA drafts proved to be a success story for the Chicago Sky. They were able to grab one of the fiercest competitors in college basketball, Angel Reese. Anyhow, as much as she was ecstatic about this inclusion, Weatherspoon was cautioned before she began her journey with the talented forward.
After displaying her delight, the Louisiana Tech Athletic Hall of Famer extended her welcome to Reese through a video call. After she expressed how happy she was with her draft selection, Reese’s words were, “Coach Mulkey told me to tell you if you give me a hard time to call her.” Weatherspoon laughingly responded, “She just texted me that too. So guess what? I’m calling her.” This conversation ended with both of them wholeheartedly enjoying the moment.

But we can expect Weatherspoon to give somewhat of a hard time to Reese. And not just her, but the No.3 pick Kamilla Cardoso should expect a tough rookie season in the Windy City. A similar gesture transpired in Mulkey’s tribute to Reese after the latter’s declaration for the WNBA draft a few weeks ago.

Two days after their heartbreaking Elite Eight loss to Iowa, Kim Mulkey penned the reflections she has for Angel Reese in a very emotional post. She wrote, “[Checkmark emoji] National Champion. [Checkmark emoji] Soon-to-be graduate of LSU. [Checkmark emoji] Inspired countless individuals, young & old. Keep growing the game @angelreese10.” In addition to this, there was also a picture of them sharing a very warm hug.

There is no denying that Mulkey has impacted Reese’s career in a big way. Furthermore, one of the instrumental reasons why LSU’s former No.10 made her way to Baton Rouge was to be a part of Mulkey’s “winning culture.”
Not only was she able to achieve that, but Angel Reese has also left a lasting legacy of herself as well. We’ll have to wait and see if she continues to have the same effect professionally as well, along with how she gets along with her new coach.
