While the Paris Olympics went on, all eyes were on the sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson. This time, she was going for the gold medal and trying to break the Jamaican domination at the 100m event at the Olympics. And therefore, her competitiveness was met by equal cheers from American stars, notably Angel Reese.

Reese, before the start of Richardson’s semi-final race, took to the social networking site X to wish luck to her compatriot. “LET’S GO SHA’CARRI! KILL THEM!!!,” was Reese’s message for the 24-year-old.

After winning her opening round on Friday with an impeccable timing of 10.94s, Richardson advanced to the Semi-Finals. She had the fourth fastest time. Her competitors Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Marie-Josée Ta Lou Smith, and Daryll Neita were ahead of her, which made it an exciting clash. But the semi-finals were even more thrilling.

In the semi-finals, Richardson came second next to Julien Alfred, who finished the race with 10.84 seconds. Alfred was the only other sprinter apart from Richardson who had broken into the 10.8 seconds category before the Olympics this year and she showed her prowess again in Paris. Meanwhile, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was scratched, which came as a shock for all the fans, though the reason for that hasn’t been given yet.

Richardson had the opportunity to become the first American woman to win a gold at the 100m event after Gail Devers won one in 1996. But it wasn’t meant to be, as much to the spectators’ dismay, the 24-year-old lost the Finals earlier today.

Richardson lost the finals while competing against Alfred, who clocked a time of 10.72 seconds, even bettering her semi-final performance. SCR completed the race with a timing of 10.87 seconds, which was rather unfortunate for the American sensation, as she was going for gold and trying to script history at the Olympics.

Richardson couldn’t keep away the Caribbean influence away from the 100 meters which disappointed many of her fans. Previously too, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce had won the gold during the 2008, and 2012 Olympics, while Elaine Thompson-Herah had won the gold at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, denying America the top spot.

Nonetheless, what Richardson can revel in is the fact that she brought the silver medal to her country on her debut. As for Reese, she can find solace in the fact that she supported Richardson and cheered for her. Meanwhile, the USA stars would keep an eye on future events and hope the stars and stripes add many more medals to their tally.
