After a difficult start to the season, the Las Vegas Aces are on a roll at the moment. Another win against the Washington Mystics means that now that they are on a 6-game winning streak. However, the night proved to be a complete turnaround from the last time these two franchises squared off for the Aces’ zestful point guard Kelsey Plum.
For a second consecutive night, the 3× WNBA All-Star delivered a power-packed performance. She emerged as the team’s top performer, garnering 28 points while being 10 of 13 (76%) from the field and shooting 6 of 9 from beyond the arc. Following this, she sat alongside the commentators of the night Krista Blunk and Carolyn Peck to reflect more on her phenomenal exhibition. “The first time that I played Washington, they did a really good job. Heavy nail shift, flooding the paint. It was really difficult for me to get in space,” Plum told the commentators.
The response came after Peck asked the 5 ft 8 in guard to fill in about a previous performance against the Mystics. The last time these 2 teams were in the same building, Plum had a below-par outing. Despite the Aces registering an 88-77 victory, the 2× WNBA champion could only get 2 points in her bag for her entire 35 minutes on the hardwood. In addition to this, she was just 1 0f 8 from the field without connecting any of her 3-point attempts.

The 29-year-old then opened up about what came out differently in this game. She added, “I think defensively we were a lot better tonight. We were able to get stops and run. It’s hard to load up when you’re doing that. The beauty of this team is sometimes it’s your night, sometimes it’s not your night.”
Finally, she gave her two cents about her individual capabilities. Plum expressed, “I know who I am, I know what type of player I am. I’m not really concerned with a 2-point performance. That doesn’t mean I didn’t play well.” Meanwhile, Plum’s performance also helped the franchise achieve a season-best night in some aspects.
Kelsey Plum makes the Aces roar out loud
A second consecutive 25+point performance from Kelsey Plum resulted in Las Vegas shooting 59% from the field. Consequently, these numbers are 4% better than their previous best statistics. In addition to this, the 21-point win margin is the highest this season, besting their 19-point difference against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Afterward, Plum spoke about it in the post-game press conference. “Earlier in the year, it was hard to have fun, but it needs to be a priority. Tonight, it was just infectious. You could see it with everyone throughout the entire game,” Plum said.
