The AT&T WNBA All-Star Game is in full flow. Both Team USA and the WNBA All-Stars have come all guns blazing as they are putting it all out in this neck-to-neck contest. Having said that, things at one particular point got a little spicier despite the friendly nature of these contests. As it turns out, the fiery turn of events involved the Kelseys from both ends.

In the first quarter itself, with Team USA leading the game 23-20, Kelsey Mitchell was trying to bridge the gap. However, the Las Vegas Aces’ No.10, Kelsey Plum, stood in her way and attempted to stop Mitchell in her tracks. During the process, things got a little heated and physical between the two. While Mitchell was able to pass the ball to her teammate, Plum managed to end her subsequent run. Consequently, the officials weren’t impressed by this nature of play and handed Plum her first personal foul of the game.

While this kind of aggressiveness is not usually seen in an All-Star Game, it impressed fans and raised the overall level of the game which ended with Team WNBA winning 117-109. Plum, in 13 minutes off the bench, finished the night with 9 points and 6 rebounds. On the other hand, Mitchell had 13 points and 1 assist in 14 minutes on the floor. Anyhow, these few moments did engage the social media for a while.

Some of the fans loved the competitive nature of both the athletes. Therefore, one of them wrote, “Ok Kelsey Plum and Kelsey Mitchell taking it serious.” The NBA All-Star Game has come under scrutiny over the past few years due to players seemingly not taking it seriously. While this is an exhibition game and no one wants to get hurt, seeing the best players on the planet giving it their all certainly raised the excitement level.

On similar lines, another fan called out LeBron James, writing, “Lebron cried 4-5 times watching this.” James holds the record for the most All-Star appearances with 20. As mentioned earlier, however, the NBA All-Star Game’s level has fallen off drastically over the years and many fans blame The King for it. LeBron is often accused of softening the game, making friends off the court. Another fan commented, “Safe to say this is the only All-Star game that actually matters anymore,” seemingly taking a shot at the NBA All-Star Game.

It was a fantastic contest at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, which even the fans enjoyed. From numerous records getting broken to the aggressiveness on display, this game served as a reminder of what the best players in the world can do when put on the court together. This fan’s comment sums it up perfectly, “Take notes nba. WNBA is so much more competitive. Nothin better then competing – much better then flash and lazy effort nba offers for all star.” No one would mind the NBA’s exhibition game getting this competitive.
