Is Sabrina Ionescu setting a new standard for balancing personal life and professional success?

Sabrina Ionescu has filled many shoes in life. From being a guard in the league’s current top team, and being one of the most popular faces in the WNBA to being a first-time Olympian, she has been in many positions. However, one personal life update that the 2023 WNBA Finalist shared last year was her being a wife. The Liberty star married her long-time boyfriend and the Las Vegas Raiders center Hroniss Grasu in March 2024. As she continues to juggle both roles perfectly, Ionescu reveals how she makes that happen.

The New York Liberty guard recently sat down with Vanity Fair to talk about various things, personal and professional. When Lisa Robinson asked her about her work-life balance, the 2023 WNBA three-point champion had a very satisfying answer.

She told Robinson, “It’s been a part of our relationship since we started dating my last year in college [the University of Oregon], so it’s something we’re used to. His playing football helps a little bit; because our seasons don’t 100% overlap, he’s been able to see my games as well. It’s good to have that perspective of being married to another athlete. It keeps me levelheaded.”

Recently, the couple also posted photos together as they arrived at Phoenix for the WNBA All-Star Weekend. In fact, Grasu, who is in his off-season, is also in Paris right now. Surely, rooting for his wife and Team USA as they plan on bringing their tenth gold medal.

The very first post of the Liberty star on her Instagram account is of her wedding day. As much as the caption, the mere act of pinning down the post shows how much she is in love with her husband. Back in January 2023, Hroniss Grasu popped the question, and the superstar athlete said yes! She later posted a video on TikTok expressing her feelings. “I was completely shocked and caught off guard. I was just so happy.”

Certainly, this NFL star is quite fond of his WNBA wife. Both happen to be University of Oregon alum and have majored in General Social Sciences. While the Chicago Bears drafted Grasu in 2015, Sabrina Ionescu became the college’s star player. She took them to 3x Elite Eight levels in the NCAA DI WBB tournaments, the only three times that the Ducks have appeared on that stage. In her junior year, she even led Oregon to its only Final Four appearance to date.

Through all this, it was Hroniss Grasu who stood by her. Both have also been seen in each other’s games, showing how being married to an athlete has many perks. However, Sabrina Ionescu is no stranger to rocky times either. Especially the ones she saw after she was engaged. Nevertheless, the WNBA star has clearly found a way through it all.
