From coast-switching to wild rumors, is Kate Martin the most entertaining athlete on social media?

It all started in April this year when Kate Martin posted a story while hard launching her girlfriend. “Switched coasts for the weekend,” she wrote alongside a mirror selfie with Claire Gransee. Now, Martin may have finally confirmed her sexuality in the most hilarious way.

According to a story uploaded on Martin’s official Instagram account on October 9th, she had an exclusive interview with Togethx host, Sydney Colson. As both basketball pros attempted a yoga pose with the Aflac duck, Martin revealed,The wildest thing I’ve ever heard or read about myself was that my nephew wasn’t my nephew.”

She added, “I secretly had him, and he’s my baby. Somebody said I was dating a man before.” After hearing Martin’s comments, Colson gave a suspicious look at the camera and said, “That’s even crazier.” It was a clear signal that assuming Martin with a man was a similar situation for Colson like when a pig fly.

Martin’s love life has been a hot topic ever since she entered the WNBA as the No. 18 pick by the Aces. As she prefers to keep it private, it has generated even more curiosity among spectators. However, it all came to an end when Gransee’s picture with Martin appeared on her feed. While many were left heartbroken, one standout reaction came from a TikTok fan named Abbey.

Echoing a common sentiment after Martin chose someone else, Abbey posted a TikTok lamenting the development. “I can’t even be upset if that’s Kate Martin’s girlfriend because she is literally gorgeous, stunning, perfect,” read the comment. This caught Martin’s attention, and she responded herself. “She is gorgeous, stunning, and perfect, I can’t lie,” she added. Apparently, Claire also chimed in with a “thank you.

Martin knows Gransee from Iowa.

The Aces’ rookie, Martin, shared the same university and collegiate basketball team with Caitlin Clark. In fact, Martin attended the 2024 WNBA draft as a supporter of Clark but ended up being selected by the Aces herself. At the same time, Claire Gransee graduated from Iowa. While Claire majored in Communication Studies, Martin earned her BA in Recreation and Sports Management.

Later, Gransee moved to Boston, aligning with Clark’s message about flying from one coast to another. Since then, Martin hasn’t posted much about Claire, but she has been quite vocal about being a lesbian. However, she isn’t the only one in her family who belongs to the LGBTQ+ community.

Coming from an extremely athletic family, with a father who was a collegiate soccer player and a sister who played basketball at Truman State, Martin’s maternal aunt, Julie Fitzpatrick, was also a basketball player at Drake and is now married to her love, Iowa head coach Jan Jensen. Now the question is: Will Martin follow in Fitzpatrick’s footsteps anytime soon?
