Could Kate Martin be the next big star in the three-on-three league like Marina Mabrey?

While the fans are ready to watch the WNBA 2024 season, some stars are prepping up for Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier’s brainchild Unrivaled 3*3 league. The event which is set to commence in January from next year onwards is already making headlines for recruiting popular stars such as Angel Reese, Dearica Hamby, and Chelsea Gray among others. And now, when the official Instagram page of the league announced the signing of Marina Mabrey, fans couldn’t resist their urge to lure Las Vegas Aces rookie guard Kate Martin.

The Unrivaled official Instagram channel in collaboration with Mabrey shared the good news on Saturday. “MARINA MABREY IS UNRIVALED👑 13/30✅ WHO’S NEXT👀,” the post was captioned. Taking cognizance of the fact that the league has to recruit 30 stars, fans demanded that Kate Martin be recruited. “Kate Martin next,” one fan commented.

Though Martin was drafted in the second round during the WNBA 2024 draft, the 24-year-old has been the unsung hero for the Aces. She has played a limited time on the hardwood but has made sure to enchant fans with her impact. During the game against the Los Angeles Sparks in June, Martin scored 13 points. Before that against her ex-teammate Caitlin Clark and her current franchise Indiana Fever, Martin hit 12 points, all the time reminding the fans of her presence.

Meanwhile, the Unrivaled League will have 6 teams of 5 players each. As is the case with the 3*3 format, only three stars will be able to ply their trade at one time for a particular team. The league which will take place at Miami will provide an alternative to those WNBA stars who go overseas to play during the off-season. Plus, it will also help in solving the pay issues to some extent as the league will be completely owned by the players. To top that for the fans, the league will introduce the 3*3 format which has garnered a lot of attention since Team USA won bronze at the Paris Olympics. Hence, the admirers look forward to the event and want Martin to be a part of it.

Fans want to see Kate Martin in the Unrivaled league

“We gotta see @caitlinclark22 and @katemartin,” another fan commented that he wanted to see Clark and Martin next. Notably, both were teammates during their time at Iowa. While Clark has quashed appeals of her joining the league by enumerating that she is focused on the WNBA for now, Martin surely can have another start to her career since the format is new and it might be possible that she is given much time in the league that justifies her potential.

“Kate Martin,” one more user commented on her name. Martin as mentioned before has helped the Aces whenever she has been given the responsibility. Her exceptional 13 points against the Sparks in June continue to dwell in the hearts of fans.

“Kate Martin in it would bring some popularity with her. She’s great…but I do wonder if she should risk injury for that ?,” another fan stated. Martin had bruised her Achilles Tendon during the last WNBA game against the Chicago Sky and now is the perfect time for her to mark in presence in the WNBA and later in the Unrivaled.

“Mhm if chennedy don’t get picked that crazy,” another netizen commented. Chennedy Carter recently came on X to announce that she hasn’t been approached for the Unrivaled and hence, her fans are a little disappointed with this fact considering she has taken the onus of the Chicago Sky team along with Reese.

“We want Gabby !!!,” Another user also stated that she wanted to see Gabby Williams. Williams after her 19-point Olympic performance against the USA during the gold medal game has made a place for herself in the hearts of her fans.
