Chicago, in their own way, has made their 2024 WNBA campaign memorable. And former LSU standout Angel Reese had a huge role to play in that. Joining the likes of Candace Parker and Tina Charles with 19 double-doubles so far has made her the face of the franchise in the Rookie Of the Year debate. However, that doesn’t overshadow what the 3rd overall pick for Sky Kamilla Cardoso has accomplished this season despite tackling injuries. Well, to make sure that her contributions get their fair share of recognition, the 23-year-old’s South Carolina head coach decides to give a shout-out to her.
The Chicago Sky are back to winning ways. Bouncing back after their 20-point humiliation at home, the 2021 WNBA champs made sure that their trip to the Crypto.com Arena was a successful endeavor through a 90-86 win. The catalysts behind this bounce-back were the duo of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Seemingly, they shared a piece of history by becoming the first rookie pair this season to record double-doubles in the same game for a 4th time.
In addition to this, this is the 4th most by any 2 players in a single season ever. Certainly, this made Cardoso’s Gamecock mentor Dawn Staley proud. Highlighting her figures for the night, she expressed her elation through a tweet which said, “Play with Killa if you want! @Kamillascsilva keep proving these hater wrong! They’re so fair weather! We are riders over here!!@GamecockWBB.”

A career-high 14 rebounds alongside 15 points summed up the night for Cardoso. Moreover, she was 6 of 9 while shooting from the field and connected 3 out of her 4 attempts from the free throw line. The 2024 NCAA Tournament MOP also carried an Individual player efficiency of +9 in the middle.
Surely, a performance like that is bound to get the attention of the 4× WBCA National Coach of the Year winner. Anyhow, she’s not the only one spared a thought or two on the towering center.

Only 2 inches separate rookie Kamilla Cardoso from veteran Brittney Griner. Indeed, that made it a thrilling experience for the 9,025 present at the Wintrust Arena earlier this week to witness these 2 behemoths going against one another. But before that, the 10× WNBA All-Star reflected on what she was anticipating before the contest.
“I’m just looking forward to the game”, Griner said before the game. “I don’t really get to go against people my size. So, I’m just looking forward to that.”
