Kamilla Cardoso's humility shines through—Is this the kind of sportsmanship we need more of in the WNBA?

Cardoso, a 6-foot-7 center, neither had an expected start nor an ideal end to her rookie season. Three days before her game against the Atlanta Dream, it was confirmed that she would miss the last two games of the regular season. Her shoulder injury took away the opportunity to help the Chicago Sky at their worst. But could she have turned the tables if she had been on another team?

Absolutely not. In a recent TikTok video uploaded to Kamilla Cardoso’s account, she was seen acknowledging messages on live. When one fan asked her to commit to the Indiana Fever, she gave a vague reply. “Indiana has nothing. What about you come to Chicago?” she expressed. It seems she’s loyal to the team that picked her as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 draft, even when Sky met with the worst fate this season after their crucial players bid farewell to season one after another.

At first, it was Angel Reese sidelined due to a hairline fracture. Although her injury wasn’t fatal, it required surgery to prevent arthritis at just 22 years old. A couple of matches after the Sky’s leading scorer’s COVID-19 diagnosis, even the league’s leading rebounder had to bid adieu. The only difference between the two was that Carter’s absence was expected, whereas Reese’s was not.

At this time, the Sky was just one win away from securing the last remaining playoff spot. Later, Carter stepped in to drive the Sky, but she wasn’t able to secure the fourth berth. Three days before the second-to-last game of the season, both Carter and Cardoso were out for the Sky. What else could you expect? Though the last two games were losses for the Sky, and the team ended the season with a 13-27 record, it was still enough for Cardoso to guarantee her improvement for the upcoming season.

But is it really worth it against the Indiana Fever?

Ever since Caitlin Clark’s arrival, the Fever’s trajectory has taken flight. From viewership to performance, they’ve nailed it all. Long before the Sky, Caitlin Clark and company clinched the playoff berth as the No. 6 seed. It marked as their first in last 8 eight years, last they got the opportunity was in 2015.

Indiana finished the season with an impressive 20-20 record. Alongside their stellar performance, the Fever also saw a significant rise in viewership. According to Sportsnaut.com, 1.178 million viewers watched Clark’s matchups across all rated networks, marking a significant 199% increase compared to other games, which garnered 394k viewers.

While it has only been two days since the Fever ended their regular season, they will kick off their first playoff game tomorrow against the Connecticut Sun on September 22nd. Still, Cardoso feels there’s nothing special about Indiana. Do you agree with her? Comment down below!
