There is no denying that the group of players representing the Chicago Bulls in the mid 90s will always be termed immortals. The historic lot that comprised the likes of Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Harper and Longley inspired and shaped the future generation of basketball stars. Amidst them is the 2021 WNBA champion Kahleah Copper.

The three-time WNBA All-Star reflects on how witnessing these greats gracing the court with their presence helped her to be the kind of player she wanted to be.

Kahleah Copper praises the icons of Chicago from the 90s

The explosive No.2 of the Chicago Sky recently attended the Bulls Ring of Honor. While addressing the media, she expressed her thoughts on the legendary 1995-96 squad. She said, “You know I used to call myself female Jordan. I used to be like, my name was MJ, so ending up in Chicago and wanting to keep that legacy strong and bringing the championship here in 2021 is super special.” 

She added, “That team was a group of winners and competitors. I like the way they put it all together. I’m excited to be here and be a part of something special and to be with some winners.”

The 1995–96 team had a record-breaking campaign. Jordan ended up being the NBA MVP, NBA All-Star Game MVP, and NBA Finals MVP. Meanwhile,  American sports scout Jerry Krause grabbed the NBA Executive of the Year.

Phil Jackson was awarded the Coach of the Year and Kukoč was adjudged Sixth Man of the Year. Also, Pippen and Jordan earned recognition in the All-NBA First Team while Rodman joined them in the All-Defensive First Team.

Taking inspiration from such an elite class of players, Kahleah Copper managed to build an illustrious career for herself in the WNBA.

What are Copper’s basketball achievements?

Kahleah Copper joined the Chicago Sky from the Washington Mystics in 2017. Following this, 2021 proved to be the breakout season for her when she led Chicago to its first-ever championship. Kahleah scored at a healthy average of 14.4 points per game in her regular season. Later, she elevated her game in the postseason jacking 17.7 points per contest.

As a result, she won her first WNBA All-Star by the end of the season. In addition to this, her phenomenal exhibition in the Finals fetched her the 2021 WNBA Finals MVP. Further, she also went on to become the MVP of the 2022 EuroLeague regular season and also made it to the All-EuroLeague First Team.
