After Angel Reese guided the Louisiana State University Lady Tigers to a Championship title in the April 2022-23 NCAA season, the former Bayou-Barbie came to the public’s notice for her glamorous side, dropping her famous swimsuit photoshoot in May. Reese was photographed by the famous photographer Yu Tsai in Los Angeles and soon became a talking point for her fashion sense along with her balling skills. The Maryland-born though received positive attention in the beginning, soon had to face the negative side of fame as her critics began to call her out which ultimately led her to a realization.
The seventh overall 2024 WNBA draft pick was present in the first episode of her namesake podcast Unapologetically Reese on Thursday when she spoke at length about her feelings of being objectified. And it sure was an eye-opener for many of her female fans.
“That’s what I am saying. Like what does that mean. I don’t get what that means coz there are I’m a beautiful girl like I’m a beautiful woman. I’ve been posting pictures in my bikinis. I got a nice body and I work hard for it. And if I want to post a picture of my bikini, I should be able to without being se—lized. where I’m saying I’m asking for or like being able to have a moment where like I’m being vulgar or I’m.. I’m this that like it. It’s and it’s the same it’s it’s been happening for a really really really long time now and now it’s just like okay like find something new,” Reese stated via Unapologetically Reese podcast.

Since her photo cover debut, Reese has often posted her snaps donning her latest outfits on Instagram. The LSU alum has revealed her wish to switch to modeling once her balling career ends. Reese is an idol for many young girls who see her at the helm of things both on the court and off the court. While the Chicago Sky rookie switches on her dawg mode while plying her trade as a baller, she is often spotted wearing top-notch accessories and clothes outside the court that add to her swag.
She had revealed to getting her “nails and hair and stuff” done and “being the girly girl on the court but still having that dog mentality.”Underlining the pride in living a double life, the former NCAA Champion admitted that “off the court I model, I take pictures, I like to dress up and have fun—and then on the court, I’m about my business,” in an interview with People’s magazine. Perhaps it is this enthusiastic spirit that does not go well with her haters.
She is usually caught up in issues with Caitlin Clark fans, who target her a lot. And this has certainly created a negative environment for Reese. On the other hand, Reese’s admirers also don’t leave the opportunity to take digs at Clark, and thus a series of comments are exchanged on social media that definitely impact her mental health, which Reese had also revealed previously.

The NCAA 2023-24 season wasn’t the best time for Angel Reese. Firstly, her mother was involved in a heated exchange with her LSU teammate Flau’jae Johsnon’s mother. Next, when Reese opted out of a few games in November, many stated it was due to either her low GPA grades or attitude issues with her teammates. While Reese kept mum most of the time, she broke down on the big stage when her team lost against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Elite Eight game in April.
During the postgame press conference, Reese revealed feeling bogged down by her haters. She reflected on the tough path throughout her 2023–24 season and how it had affected her. “I’ve seen so much. I’ve been attacked so many times, death threats, I’ve been sexualized, I’ve been threatened, I’ve been so many things, and I’ve stood strong every single time,” Reese had shared.
