When Angel Reese was drafted as the No. 7 overall pick by the Chicago Sky, she inked a four-year, $324,383 contract with the team. This means she’s currently making $73,439 for her debut season in the WNBA. So, when Unrivaled promised a minimum of $100,000 to each player, Reese became one of the first ten to get onboard. However, the salary advantage is not the only lucrative point Reese found in the Breanna Stewart- and Napheesa Collier-led new 3×3 league.

On September 6th, Angel Reese sat with her co-host, Maya Moore, for their newly launched podcast show, Unapologetically Angel, to discuss bits about the women’s league. During the conversation, they ended up sharing an unnoticed advantage of committing to Unrivaled this off-season beginning in 2025 January.

“It plays really well, but also it’s a safety thing for a lot of people,” shared Maya Moore as she nodded to Reese’s excitement over staying at home. “They don’t always have the best experience,” added Moore highlighting the loopholes of committing overseas. Reese agreed, “Exactly. I’m scared. Not gonna lie. I am too scared to go overseas.” 

The option to stay in Miami only added on to the comfort and probably topped the list of advantages for the “Chi-Town Barbie,” aside from getting to play with the 29 best of names in the sport. But she might not be the only one benefitting.

It’s a two-way trade between Angel Reese and Unrivaled.

While Reese got the safety she might have been seeking this off-season, Unrivaled got its promotion. Considering the Chicago Sky rookie has been making waves since being an LSU Tigress to now making the ROTY talks, her commitment would work wonders for the league looking to revolutionize the game.

She, alongside Caitlin Clark, reportedly brought in 2.3 million viewers on ESPN and peaked at 3.3 million during one of their showdowns. She also contributed to the merch sales up 500% this year. “players deserve compensation and ownership that reflect their value,” Collier had said when introducing Unrivaled which will be offering its inaugural players equity in the league. So a little benefit of Reese’s popularity wouldn’t be all bad an addition for the new venture.

The Sky rookie was the 10th player to sign Unrivaled. 8 more have joined since, including rookie Rickea Jackson. 12 more spots remain before the league kicks off in January 2025.
