The final matchup of the season between the Chicago Sky and the Seattle Storm surely delivered. The visiting Windy City team led in the first quarter, definitely hitting the nerve of the home team. Most of the credit for the same goes to the third overall pick Kamilla Cardoso. With her exemplary dominance in the paint, she proved why she is the reigning National Defensive Player of the NCAA. However, that changed soon enough as the Storm ran out as the winners 84-71. What was more shocking to the fans was that despite her rally, Teresa Weatherspoon moved the Brazilian talent to the bench in crunch time.

In her post-game presser, the head coach stated why she benched the 2x NCAA Champion. Clearing any injury update possibility, she said, “She’s fine. She’s fine. Just gave her a moment and Izzy was playing fairly well for us and that’s it.”

Kamilla Cardoso returned to the Climate Pledge Arena with the aim of taking down Seattle for good. In the very first quarter, the 2x National Champion showed her skills with a whopping 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. As a result, the Sky led the hosts 20-12 in the initial 10 minutes of the game. However, with a slower performance in the following quarter and with the Storm taking charge of the game again, T-spoon substituted Cardoso for Isabelle Harrison.

Although the rookie returned to the floor for a few minutes in the second half, she was missing from the floor for the entire last 15 minutes of the game. She capped her night with 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. The fans are finding it a hard pill to swallow that Cardoso was benched for Harrison. The latter added 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks despite sharing the same minutes on the floor.

Fans react to Teresa Weatherspoon’s snub on Kamilla Cardoso and it’s not good

Certainly, it was visible in the game’s opening minutes how much Kamilla Cardoso has learned from Dawn Staley. Among the top would be how the defense can do a lot to win games. While the rookie is quite active in the paint, her 6-ft-7 frame also helps create a physical barrier for the opponents. One fan mentioned just that as they tried to understand why she was benched for half the game.

Another follower came into the comment section to accuse the head coach of incorrect decisions. They mentioned Cardoso’s brilliant performance in the first quarter and opined that as soon as she went away, Chicago could not keep up with the Storm in the paint. Seattle had 13 rebounds in the first quarter of their 36 total. On the other hand, Chicago got the better of them, with 21 of their 38 total coming in the first 10 minutes of the game. 8 of these were by Kamilla Cardoso.

“This lost is definitely on spoon Seattle was killing the sky in the paint, as soon as kamilla went out”

Kamilla Cardoso has, time and again, proven that she is tough. The same could be the reason why the rookie has not once complained about the WNBA’s physicality. As a post player, this toughness really comes in handy. And that is exactly why she has been able to perform the way she has in just 14 games after her shoulder injury. But while she did enter the game with confidence, she seemed to have lost it as she ended the night with 8 rebounds. She did not grab any rebounds in her last 10 minutes of floor time.

“Her rebound prop was set at 8.5 and she had 8 in the 1st qtr…. Then she barley played and finished with 8 #Vegas”

Another fan simply wanted a justification for why the head coach substituted Kamilla Cardoso. They mentioned Killa Milla’s defense in the game, which equaled to 3 blocks in the first 20 minutes. She had also added 4 points and had 1 steal in the first half. The fan was just frustrated about why she did not get the chance to continue her game.

“I just wanna understand why take KC out the game in 2nd half. She had 4 blocks in first half and you bench her.. Cmon man”

It is only fair to make comparisons between the two players in focus, and that’s exactly what another follower did. They mentioned how Kamilla Cardoso has outdone Harrison in every game. In fact, their averages for the season so far explain the same quite clearly. The rookie is currently putting up 8.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. On the other hand, the 9-year veteran is adding 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per clip.

“Kamilla is better than her. She has literally played better than her every game, but somehow the coach has loyalty to the senior players”
While we cannot say for sure what the head coach was planning, we do know that T-spoon knows how well Kamilla Cardoso can play. However, the Sky has now dropped to the 8th playoff spot following this loss.
