Ever since Caitlin Clark’s arrival on the Indiana Fever, the team’s record has improved drastically. However, managing a force like her on the team wasn’t easy. Thanks to the team’s head coach, who, despite a rocky start, did an exceptional job in galvanizing team chemistry and finishing the season with a 20-20 record. But it seems that wasn’t enough to secure her place with the team for the following season.
The rumor regarding head coach Christie Sides’ potential departure has been churning for quite a while as there were no signs that she would return to the Fever in 2025 after coaching for two seasons. But they will only seem to get louder now.
A new report by the ‘Chicago Sun-Times’ has raised eyebrows. According to Annie Costabile, “Stephanie White has been in talks with multiple teams regarding her future,” potentially as their head coach.

After coaching the Connecticut Sun for the past two seasons, White’s contract has expired. Of the three, the Fever is considered the top pick for White, especially since she spent a total of 11 seasons with the organization—two as head coach, four as an assistant coach, and five as a player. Fans want White to sign with the Fever
As soon as fans heard about White’s potential return to the Fever, they flooded the comment sections with excitement. It seems they want her to return to Indy as soon as possible. “She’s going to Indy,” penned a user on X, alongside a picture of her as the Fever’sassistant coach in 2014. It’s true that the Fever could be an intriguing option for White.
She played for Indiana from 2000-04 and was an assistant coach from 2011-2014, where she also won a championship with the team. “Stephanie is an Indiana girl through and through, and it makes complete sense for her to return to her roots and coach a generational talent like Caitlin Clark,” added another user.

In 2014, she was promoted to head coach for the 2015-2016 season, posting a record of 37-31. With the Fever holding back-to-back No. 1 picks, White’s championship experience could be a valuable opportunity for the team. This has led fans to conclude that “if this happens, it would show the Fever are serious about building a juggernaut and winning a championship soon,” wrote a user.
Since being eliminated from the second round, White has been dealing with a “family emergency” and has put her future plans on hold for the moment. However, this doesn’t mean she won’t consider the Fever. While her last salary package with the Sun hasn’t been made public, according to the ‘Sun-Times’, teams will likely have to offer her a seven-figure salary. “GIVE HER WHATEVER SHE WANTS, INDY!!” added another spectator.

On the other hand, not everyone is pleased with the idea of White’s return to the Fever. Some fans have mixed feelings about her taking the reins. “I’m mixed regarding White. Does she have control over her team? Does she condone dirty hits?” questioned a user on X. For some fans, the Sun’s physical playstyle has been a major concern whenever the Fever faced them. White’s silence on the matter has left a mark on their opinions, which is why they have mixed feelings about her.
The question remains: Will she take the Fever’s head coaching position? Stay tuned to find out!
