Are Indiana Fever fans right to be so desperate for Natasha Howard, or is it wishful thinking?

As the WNBA regular season wraps up, the league finds itself split: eight teams are strategizing for the playoffs, while the rest are left to ponder how to bounce back next season. For those who didn’t qualify, the challenge is twofold—bouncing back and facing the prospect of losing key players who might seek opportunities elsewhere. One notable case that has already surfaced online is Natasha Howard’s departure from the Dallas Wings, which has sparked excitement among fans of other teams, all eager to see her don their colors next season.

Just a day after wrapping up the season against the Las Vegas Aces, Howard took to X to share some big news. “I would like to thank the Dallas Wings for two great years. It has been a wonderful opportunity to play for this franchise and in front of our loyal fans. I’ve enjoyed playing alongside my teammates and wish them all the best. Free agency is upon us and I am focused on exploring every option. I look forward to this next chapter with a new team and new city.”

The 33-year-old guard made her way to the Dallas Wings from the New York Liberty in a three-team trade back in January 2023. Over her two years with the team, she played in 71 out of 85 games, starting nearly every one except for a single matchup this season. She averaged 17.6 points per game this season, slightly more than last year’s average of 16.5 per game.

While her future destination is still up in the air, fans of the Indiana Fever have made their wishes clear—they’re eager to see the forward make the move to Indianapolis.

Indiana Fever fans eagerly anticipate a reunion with Natasha Howard

During her two seasons with the Wings, Howard made quite an impact, scoring an impressive 1,116 points and consistently ranking as the team’s third-leading scorer. With ten years of experience in the league, she’s poised to be a valuable addition to any team she joins next.

Natasha Howard isn’t just any player; she’s a proven winner with three championships under her belt, clinching her first two in consecutive years with the Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm. However, it’s been over four years since she last hoisted the trophy. One passionate Fever fan has even assured Howard that if she joins their team, she will clinch her fourth ring.

“Come to Indy, we got Waffle House and we’ll give you your 4th ring”

Another fan had a similar promise for the 3x WNBA champion, which said the Fever would definitely win the title next year if the Flash decides to move to Indiana for the upcoming season.

“COME TO THE FEVER WE WINNING THE CHIP NEXT SEASON I PROMISE”

What’s particularly interesting is that the Florida State alum began her journey right in Indianapolis, where the Fever selected her as the fifth overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft. She kicked off her rookie season impressively, scoring 16 points in her debut and following that up with 21 points in her second outing as a professional. Another Fever fan expressed that having her back is something the team would love.

“THE FEVER WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU”

During her two years with the Fever, Howard made a significant impact, helping the team reach the Finals in 2015, where they faced off against the Minnesota Lynx—her second home in the league. Remarkably, she didn’t miss a single shot throughout the entire Finals, going a perfect 8 for 8 from the field over five games. This impressive performance truly showcases her caliber and is a testament to why Fever fans are eager to see her return. One fan even referred to her as “queen,” expressing a heartfelt wish for Howard to shift her base back to Indianapolis.

Nevertheless, Howard has been on a journey as a pro as she has never spent more than three years with any franchise. In fact, the Seattle Storm is the only team where she played for a full three seasons, contributing to two championships during her time there. With yet another move on the horizon, it’s clear that Fever fans are eager to see their 2014 rookie don their colors again, especially now that she’s a seasoned veteran. The fans have expressed their desire as one user commented.

“you would look phenomenal in an Indiana fever jersey 🫡”

It’ll be intriguing to see if the 33-year-old Howard would fulfill Fever fans’ wishes. But one thing is certain: if she joins the Fever, it would be a fantastic addition. Her skills on the court are undeniable, and she would bring invaluable experience to a young roster that currently features six players under the age of 25, all still learning the ropes. With Howard’s presence, the Fever would gain a proven leader capable of guiding the team through tough situations, teaching them how to maintain their composure when it matters most.
