“Her crown is heavy.” This is how the former Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder had described the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark previously. As the 2x National Player of the Year has stepped into the professional league, many outsiders are understanding the weight on her shoulders. The cover girl of WNBA has confessed to facing some rash treatment over the past few weeks as the physicality of the league is getting the better of her. Consequently, among many, the former NFL star Kerry Rhodes urges the rookie’s teammates to stand up for her after the Chennedy Carter incident.

The former NFL star expressed his disappointment in Clark’s teammates. Calling the war to be Caitlin Clark vs everyone, Kerry Rhodes said on Fox Sports Radio, “It’s time for her team, her organization to step up. Stand in front of her and say that we got her back. Go out there and be physical back with those other teams. Show that they have some backbone and some adoration for their teammate. Because now it’s getting to the point now where she seems like it’s Caitlin Clark vs everybody. I don’t mean just her opponents. I mean her teammates as well which is crazy.”

The American actor also added, “They need to come out. Next game they play, if that was to happen again, retaliate. There needs to be some retaliation. I know it shouldn’t come from her. It should come from the people around her.”

Although Rhodes agreed that Caitlin Clark too would need to go through the ritualistic ‘ride or pass’ in the league as a rookie, he also said that it had crossed the limit. This is not the first time that a former professional athlete has called out the Fever franchise. Shannon Sharpe was one of the most recent ones.

Fox Sports Radio analyst calls out the WNBA to protect Caitlin Clark

Many would not believe that Caitlin Clark had an instant transformation as Candace Parker did. However, not many would argue about her impact on the league. Most would even say that she single-handedly boosted the viewership, sales, and overall excitement surrounding women’s basketball. Hence, accepting the “star power” that Clark carries with her, Dan Beyer of Fox Sports also shared his views. While he did ask the Fever organization to stand up for the rookie, he also asked the WNBA to take action.

Beyer said, “If the WNBA really wants to do something about it, I think you to start suspending players. The WNBA needs to make it easier on Caitlin Clark. Then, you’re rigging the system and that wouldn’t be fair. But you have to stand up for your members. You have to stand up for your players.”

The sports analysts also suggested that docking the paycheck because of suspension would send a message to the entire league. Whether or not the WNBA as a league will take action is not known yet. However, looks like everyone agrees that Caitlin Clark’s teammates need to do the needful till then.
