“She’s figuring it out,” Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe agreed as they discussed Caitlin Clark on their podcast earlier this month. And they haven’t been wrong. Clark, who has been dismissed for being just an “effect,” has grown, continued to break records, and post-Olympic break, has only presented the best of herself with no less than 19 points each game. She believes it so herself and delivered on it once again as the Indiana Fever took on the Connecticut Sun tonight.
On August 29th, Caitlin Clark finally spoke up about her May/June performance in a pregame session with the press. “It feels like a different season, honestly. For myself, I feel like I was a completely different player then,” she said. This was just a few hours before she broke the 3-point record against the Sun.

CC, on how May/June feels to now: “It feels like a different season, honestly. For myself, I feel like I was a completely different player then… back then, we didn’t really even know our identity as a team and how we really wanted to play.”

It all happened just three minutes into the game. At that moment, Clark was over Sun guard DiJonai Carrington when she drained a step-back three. The 22-year-old Fever star hit an early three-pointer to help her team against their opponents at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. In the process, she officially broke a tie with Rhyne Howard.
Now, Clark owns the league’s rookie 3-point record. With her first shot from beyond the arc today, she tallied 86 points, one over Howard who had 85 during her 2022 rookie campaign. In the previous game against Atlanta Dream, with a step-back three-pointer over Howard, Clark had tied the record with her 4th and final 3-pointer for the night.
She added two more tonight to extend the record while Fever grabbed their win 84-80 from an early trailing.

On May 15th, the Indiana Fever faced off against the Connecticut Sun for the first time this season. Despite all possible efforts, Clark and the Fever struggled in a 92-71 loss. It would be the beginning of the Fever’s 5-game losing streak. Clark, on the other hand, was struggling to get used to the pros and cons of the league.

10 turnovers in her first game, most by an Indiana Fever player, Clark also saw herself being limited to nine points, seven assists, and seven rebounds in the next game against the New York Liberty. Though the turnovers remain an area of concern, her scoring and assist consistency has been a thing of highlight.
From 3 assists in the first game to 10 or more in every game but one for month of July, alongside no less than 13 points since June 14, Clark has certainly adjusted to the ways of the league. She’s now averaging 18 impressive points along with a league-high 8.2 assists per contest this season. In addition, she averages 2.8 three-pointers per game, which is fourth-best.

“We’ve been able to find more consistency,” she added before the game today. Well, improvement hasn’t evaded Fever either.
The team has won 4 of their 5 games since the Olympic break and currently ranks 7th in the league overall. Their last win over the Atlanta Dream also marked the first time since 2016 that the Fever won 14 games in a single season. 9 more games to go, Clark is making her case, and Indiana, closer to the playoffs in years.
