Should Sheryl Swoopes forgive Elle Duncan for her Caitlin Clark comment? What's your take on this?

“The apology should be as loud as the disrespect.” ESPN analyst Elle Duncan clearly made her intentions known on her X account last Friday after she openly charged Sheryl Swoopes headfirst. Caitlin Clark, one of the most polarizing basketball players at present, has had her fair share of criticism. Surely, Swoopes was not behind in adding a few jibes either. Still, the recent events on the internet might just have made life a little extra difficult for the two podcasters involved.

However, there was a huge twist to it all. Apparently, Elle Duncan did not understand what Sheryl Swoopes mentioned in her podcast Queens of Court. Hence, she took to her X account on Friday and jotted down a long apology for the 4x WNBA champion. She again brought the topic up in The Elle Duncan Show. Asking for forgiveness, Elle stated, “I did it wrong last Thursday. I just did the best thing that I could do in that moment which was admit that I effed up and say I’m sorry. I hope that Sheryl forgives me. I will do better. This was a very teachable moment for me.”

Last Thursday, Elle Duncan unloaded her thoughts on the WNBA legend after the latter’s take on Caitlin Clark for the ROTY award. She had mentioned how Swoopes was wrong in not doing her fair share of researching and simply commenting on how the Indiana Fever would still be in the playoffs without Clark.

Moreover, Swoopes mentioned that more than the rookie guard, it was Katie Lou Samuelson, who was holding the reins down for the team. To this, Duncan gave a long comment which boiled down to, “This just doesn’t feel right at all. And it is starting to feel like hate from Sheryl.”

Looking at the big picture of Sheryl Swoopes’ take on Caitlin Clark

The apparent battle between Sheryl Swoopes vs. Caitlin Clark has majorly turned out to have been a one-sided situation. While the 3x Olympic gold medalist keeps taking hits at the rookie, the latter never responds to them all. But for this once, all Sheryl Swoopes did was make a case for Angel Reese in the Rookie of the Year race. According to Swoopes, the Chicago Sky is in playoff contention because of how Angel Reese has been performing for the team.

However, her next take was that the Fever does not really need Caitlin Clark to be in that spot. On the contrary, the rookie’s arrival has changed the tides for Indiana. She is currently leading the league for most points created for a team and created 8.2 assists per game. Moreover, the first overall pick leads the rookies and her team with 17.1 points. After crossing rough storms, they are currently in the seventh spot in the league. Clearly, a big difference for a team that has not made the playoffs since 2015.

Have an interesting take?

While we do not know if Sheryl Swoopes will forgive Elle Duncan, we do know that Caitlin Clark is a clear reason why the Fever is in this position right now. The outcome of the ROTY race will heavily rely on the performance of the leading contenders, Angel Reese and the Indiana guard, during the latter half of the season.
