The City of Angels has truly been blessed with some hungry talents this year. Both Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson are turning heads with their specific skill sets. While the second overall pick continues to be the defensive pillar of the team, Jackson, too is having a major impact on the Sparks. In fact, her ability to play at multiple positions is something that head coach Curt Miller can use to his advantage to grab wins. This is also something that gives this unsung hero a goal for her rookie year, The Sixth Player of the Year.

Recently, Rickea Jackson talked to John W. Davis of Inside the Wubble to share her thoughts on her floor placement. She said, “I feel like I’m getting more and more comfortable with it every day. When I first got here, my head was about to explode. Going at a fast pace, trying to learn everything from multiple positions, that was pretty tough.”

The 3x All-SEC Team honoree also spelled out how she chooses her position for each opportunity. She said, “It’s more so who’s guarding me. If it’s a little person, I want to be in the post. If it’s a bigger person, I want to be at the three. So, it depends on who’s guarding me.” The rookie also appreciated her veteran teammates saying, “I have the best that I have.”

And undeniably, the two rookies of Los Angeles have truly been a boon to the team despite a 1-5 record.

Brink and Jackson may have been enemies during their NCAA careers, but in the pros, they are being each other’s support for the team’s growth. The young core of LA drafted Cameron Brink to add to its defensive strengths. But apart from that, she is also one of the leading scorers of the team. After last night’s game against the Wings, Cameron is leading the WNBA in blocks per game with 3.2. She also added a record of 12+ points and 2+ blocks in the opening quarter of the game, joining only A’ja Wilson for the feat.

On the other hand, Rickea Jackson has been a versatile player in every game so far. Currently, she is averaging 9.8 points with a 54.8% accuracy from the field. She is also shooting 50% from deep on two attempts per game. Apart from the offense, she is adding to the team’s defense with 2.4 rebounds per game as well.

While both the ladies have to work on their foul problems, they are giving their all in the minutes they do have on the floor. Hence, more than harm, they are doing good to Sparks. Apart from their on-court skills, their talents outside of the lines also make them essential to grab more fans and visibility for the team.
