Is Angel Reese's injury a devastating blow to the Chicago Sky's season? What are your thoughts?

When the Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter was out due to illness, the only hope for the Windy City loyalists was Angel Reese. The rookie was performing to the best of her abilities, surpassing double-doubles records and rebounding tallies. But without Carter, the team lost all four games that they played. Nonetheless, the Sky’s admirers had high expectations from Reese, wishing that the forward would help the team cling to the eighth spot in the W, which would ultimately get them to the playoffs. However, their optimism was dealt with tight blows.

During their last meeting with the Los Angeles Sparks, Reese suffered a wrist injury. She later updated her fans through her X account, “I have a season ending injury,” showing her gratitude to the Almighty for what she accomplished this year. Still, not many know just when the rookie got injured, particularly so because Reese didn’t walk out until later.

The game between the Sparks and the Sky started with a neck-to-neck competition. While the Sparks led in the first quarter, at one point, having an edge of 19-13, two shots from the deep by Diamond DeShields and Rachel Banham helped the Sky get even. From there on, the game slowly and steadily hinged towards the Sky, who during the fourth quarter, were positioned at an unassailable 85-70 lead.

At that time, in one play, the Sky’s guard Lindsay Allen, in order to create an open space, passed the ball to DeShields, who missed a 26-foot three-point jumper. Reese, who was stationed near the rim, saw the opportune moment to get an offensive rebound. However, the Sparks guard Crystal Dangerfield fought the Chi-Town Barbie for the ball, who fell on the hardwood on her right wrist, probably incurring the injury. Dangerfield was given a personal foul for her play.

But all credit to Reese for continuing her play, as the former NCAA Champion did something that was her weakest point and had earned her a lot of criticism from analysts — shooting a three-pointer. The Maryland-born, with her three-pointer, took the lead to 88-72 with an assist from Moriah Jefferson, before Brianna Turner substituted her. Alas, that was the last time that we would see her this season. Nonetheless, her achievements will always be etched in gold.

Angel Reese wins hearts with her spirit of steel in her last game of the rookie season

Reese, despite her bruise, had 24 points with 12 rebounds, scoring her fourth double-double in a row. She has ended her season with 26 double-doubles which is the second most in the W history apart from having 15 consecutive double-doubles, surpassing Candace Parker’s record of 12 previously this season.

But before bidding adieu to the hardwood for now, Reese made her intentions clear for the next year, revealing, “(Reese) never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol.”

The LSU alum has often been criticized for being bad with her shooting. She just has 18.8% from beyond the arc this season, something that will definitely haunt her. But Reese sent clear signals when she shot that 25-foot three-point jumper that she was ready to take on a new challenge for her team next season.

As for now, the Sky looks forward to making it to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if they miss Reese. Sunday’s game against the Dallas Wings will make it clear if Carter & Co. will be able to take it to the next level and inch closer to Teresa Weatherspoon’s dream of making it to the elimination series. For now, as stated by Reese herself, she can look to give herself “a physical and mental break.”
