Hailey Van Lith’s alma mater has been frequently discussed recently! There’s no doubt that the TCU Horned Frogs were a very talented team this season. A large part of the credit goes towards the former Tigers star Van Lith, who transferred over from LSU to showcase her talents in a bigger role than before. However, her teammates had a lot to contribute to the team’s success.
Sedona Prince is a polarizing yet highly skilled player. The Horned Frogs forward has been caught up in quite a few controversies over the last few years, but her performance speaks for itself! The six-foot-seven WNBA prospect possesses a lot more length than her competitors and is quite nimble on her feet.
Prince was a cornerstone of the Horned Frogs’ unforgettable 2024-25 season, helping them rack up a 34-4 record, snag their first Big 12 title, and charge all the way to the Elite Eight for the first time ever. Her on-court connection with Hailey Van Lith, where they ran one of the best pick-and-roll plays in college hoops, was a huge part of TCU’s rise to a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Prince’s dominance inside earned her All-Big 12 First Team honors and showed everyone she’s a force to be reckoned with.

However, WNBA GMs aren’t convinced. Although Prince hasn’t been convicted of any crimes, her baggage is a lot to deal with for sure. Her size is a major plus point for any team, but currently, the front offices are caught in a state of flux.

Katie Barnes, a feature writer for ESPN, delved deep into Sedona Prince’s story, figuring out her perspective to all of the controversy. The six-foot-seven center was a two-way menace through most of her college career, especially as a Horned Frog. She averaged about 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks this year on efficient shooting splits. However, her draft stock still wasn’t secure.
It makes sense from both sides of the story. For Prince, it is a major point of injustice if she’s denied a professional opportunity just because of controversies without charges. However, for WNBA teams, dealing with a lot of baggage during a major popularity boom just won’t make sense.
GMs are divided on the situation. “I am unclear on why this is even a question,” one of them said. “Why wouldn’t she be drafted?” While others weren’t as convinced, saying that the chips are stacked against the TCU senior.
What’s your perspective on:

Her 17 points and 9 rebounds show that she has a high motor and can generate high-level offense. She will be larger than all but six members of the WNBA when she joins. Sedona Prince’s size is a major plus point, coupled alongside with her back-to-the-basket center play. The TCU center knows what she’s good at, and sticks to it!
The road ahead won’t be easy for Prince. Accusations and controversies are very difficult to get rid of, especially with the spotlight on her. With the WNBA Draft happening on Monday, April 14, at The Shed at Hudson Yards, teams are running out of time to figure her out. Since TCU’s season ended with that tough Elite Eight loss to Texas, GMs haven’t had much chance to dig deeper into the allegations or sit down with her, which makes this whole thing even trickier.

That’s the hope, at least, but it’s not a sure thing. Her size and skills could light up the league, but she’ll need to prove her game holds up against faster, more versatile pros—and show she can handle the pressure of that spotlight. Tomorrow’s draft will tell us if her talent wins out over the doubts.
