After a gritty showdown at Wintrust Arena, the Las Vegas Aces edged out the Chicago Sky with a nail-biting 75-77 victory. The game hinged on a standout performance from none other than A’ja Wilson. Wilson was truly the driving force behind the Aces’ success. However, it was that last basket from the 28-year-old that secured the win for the team, and the Aces center received applause from all around.
The crowd went wild when Wilson made a clutch play in the final seconds, sinking a crucial shot just before the buzzer. It was an assist from Chelsea Gray to Wilson who then cruised through the Sky’s defense and earned the two winning points for her team. The 28-year-old was phenomenal throughout as she scored 20 points, the most from the Aces side in the game.

Not just that, she also played her defensive role with 18 rebounds in her name and made two assists as well. However, it was not an easy victory for Wilson and Co. as they struggled during the first two quarters. In fact, they somehow managed a narrow two-point lead by the half-time. Interestingly, the game’s officiating was also put to question and Wilson was the one who showed her frustration during the game.
“If I get fined… I am terribly sorry but it’s ridiculous. We have been going through this all season,” stated the Aces forward. But, that would be of little importance now as the team got what they came for, which is the crucial victory for their mission to clinch their third straight WNBA title. And now, let’s take a look at all the praises coming for A’ja Wilson for her brilliant show.
A’ja Wilson’s win sends ripples through the basketball world
Not just the crowd at Wintrust Arena, Wilson’s win made waves all the way to the NBA. Watching Wilson’s performance against the Sky, even LeBron James couldn’t resist putting some words of appreciation for the Aces player. “GAME BLOUSES!!!!! @_ajawilson22,” tweeted the Los Angeles Lakers legend. Recently, both of these stars led their nation to the Olympic gold medal in Paris.
And how one can expect Dawn Staley not to shower praise on her former USC player? Staley tweeted,
“@_ajawilson22 with the game winner! @Kamillascsilva with the monster game. @GamecockWBB did not lose today. The @WNBA is better because the product is truly one to watch every DAMN game! It’s WOMEN’S SPORTS and WOMEN’S SPORTS to STAY! Come on!” The South Carolina head coach was all proud as not only Wilson but another Gamecocks graduate, Kamilla Cardoso, had a cracking game with 8 points and 12 rebounds for the Sky.Another famous name who uniquely showed her admiration was Wilson’s rival, Aliyah Edwards. The Canadian star brought a week-old tweet from A’ja Wilson into the highlight as she retweeted it and wrote,
“SPRINTING not walking to buy a pack from the store rn!!” Wilson’s tweet was about White Tee for the victory.Well, not only the players and coaches, Wilson’s excellence was also acknowledged by the media veterans and analysts. The senior NBA writer for
Andscape, Marc J Spear, found himself in awe of Wilson as he tweeted, “A’ja amazing…”However, it would be unfair to not even talk about the head coach considering the way the Aces turned the tables in the final minutes. Well, the famous analyst Rebecca Lobo took that into notice as she gave credit to the head coach Becky Hammon as well.
“Becky Hammon knows how to draw up a late game play with very little time on the clock. Wow…,” tweeted Lobo. And even A’ja herself couldn’t hold back from celebrating the thrilling victory, as she tweeted a funny dancing GIF and wrote,
“Could’ve built a house with my bricks today but WONT HE DO IT on this lovely Sunday afternoon.” With the victory over the Sky, the Aces will now look to continue their momentum in their mission to win the WNBA title for the third consecutive time.Stay tuned for more such updates.
