Gabby Williams is back in Europe with a bang! After helping France win the silver medal against the USA in the Paris Olympics, the power forward is back to support her country in the WNBA offseason. In the ongoing FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers Game against Latvia, the former Seattle Storm star has proven exactly why she’s currently one of the best free agents in the W.
FIBA Women’s Euro Basket just posted a clip from the game featuring Gabby Williams that had the crowds roaring—the 28-year-old scored 16 points in the first 5 minutes! The caption reflects the shock fans might be feeling, but what else is to be expected from the No. 2 player in the FIBA power rankings?!
From deep twos that gave the USWBNT a scare to stealing and creating easy layups for herself, the Defensive Player of the Paris Summer Games has everything covered on the floor. The former UConn Huskies player is capping off a brilliant year of basketball, especially after missing the 2023 EuroBasket due to injury.

As the No. 1 leader for France, the Storm welcomed Williams back with open arms after her Paris performance to sign her for a third season with them. In the gold medal game, Williams scored a total of 19 points, including five in the final few seconds, and almost stole the gold from the USA with a deep two. However, she had stepped on the arc, to count the expected three that would’ve forced an overtime to a two-pointer. Who wouldn’t want a clutch player like that on their team?
But Williams, who is signed to the Turkish team Fenerbahçe S.K., might be debating her WNBA options now.

Have an interesting take?
Since 2021, Gabby Williams has been on and off in the W. Though she has signed with the Seattle Storm since 2022, her contracts have never lasted long. Even after the Olympics break this year, the power forward’s contract was only until the end of this season, and so far has revealed no plans to play in the W again, especially with the low salaries she questioned.
The Seattle deal was also made after much deliberation because Williams was already signed on to Fenerbahçe for 2024-25. And not signing with a team would give her full control of her 2025 free agency. Had the Storm chosen so, they could have cored her and retained her exclusive negotiating rights for 2025, which they still have the option for.

When news of the re-signing was announced, Storm HC Noelle Quinn praised Williams, “Gabby is a dynamic player who brings tremendous versatility. She’s a two-way player who can guard multiple positions and has a strong offensive game; given her familiarity with our system, we know she can have an immediate impact. Gabby’s Olympic performance showcased her world-class talent, and we’re excited to have her join us as we push for the playoffs.”
Unfortunately, they didn’t make it past Round 1 of the playoffs, losing to none other than the back-to-back champions: the Las Vegas Aces. Even so, it would have been an opportunity for the team to keep a talent like Gabby Williams in Seattle. But her injury stint, plus the fact that the Chicago Sky suspended her in 2021 for not prioritizing the W (per league rules) but rather her international career might have been a red flag. Ultimately, it might be up to the athlete herself and where she wants to play!
