Did France's poor game plan waste Victor Wembanyama's best performance? What should they have done differently?

History in the making at the Bercy Arena in Paris. A total of 60 points by the Golden Boy Steph Curry in the last two games means that the USA men’s basketball team clinched a 5th consecutive Olympic gold. While many analysts are currently evaluating why the hosts ended up with a silver for the second time in a row, WNBA legend Candace Parker didn’t waste much in putting forth her input.

Stephen Curry (24 points, 8 3Ps), Kevin Durant (15 points, 4 assists), and LeBron James (14 points, 10 assists). The French will remember these three names for a long time. Simply because no matter what the ‘Les Bleus’ tried, they couldn’t execute their plans to contain these 3. And, that made them pay eventually.

A similar thought process was reflected in the tweet shared by the 3× WNBA champion soon after the result. She wrote, “Can you imagine the scouting report France had before this game ok so we gona double embiid but not when Steph or book or KD or white or holiday also force Bron right but like not too heavy he loves right shoulder but he can go right hook. KD we wana take away c/s but don’t let him get to the midrange. Steph c/s everywhere but floater game tough.”

As it turns out, Team USA controlled every aspect of the game from start to finish. They had a 5.84% better efficiency than France in terms of field goals. In addition to this, there was a 50% conversion rate (18 of 36) from the reigning champs from beyond the arc. This was 20% more accurate than what the French had to offer. Although both accounted for the same number of steals (10). But, a 4-rebound cushion and 5 additional blocks gave Team USA an edge from a defensive standpoint as well.

The silver lining for the hosts was the Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama. His valiant efforts included  26 points and 7 rebounds. Sadly, apart from the team’s No.7  Guerschon Yabusele (20 points), no one else could provide him with the required support.

This exhibition from Team USA surely made Candace Parker proud. While every member is currently enjoying his specific piece of accomplishment, Parker makes sure to celebrate a fellow Campbell Hall High winner.

Kevin Durant etched his name as the first male basketball athlete to win four gold medals. At the same time, King James ended up with his fourth Olympic medal. But, the occasion also graces Boston Celtics’ No.4 Jrue Holiday with his second Olympic gold. Delighted by the fact, Candace Parker shared a post from the official page of the Campbell Hall Athletics.

The post is captioned, “Two for Jrue! From Campbell Hall standout to 2-time NBA Champion and now 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Jrue Holiday defines what it means to be a true CHAMPION.” The point guard ended his outing with 6 points and 4 assists for a total of 38 and 18 respectively.

Indeed, a celebratory night for everyone. Not only Candace Parker, but the entire country is in awe of Team USA’s golden feat. Now, she will be hoping to react the same way after the women’s gold medal game later tonight.
