Caitlin Clark's flop: Tactical genius or disgrace to the game? What's your take?

Caitlin Clark’s WNBA playoffs debut is taking an unexpected turn as the league’s No. 1 defensive team, the Connecticut Sun. While Clark made headlines for her black eye after being poked by Carrington in Game 1, it seems she’s on the verge of another controversial on-court incident. But surprisingly, this time, she’s not getting the support.

On Wednesday night, September 25th, Clark took the court against the Sun at Mohegan Arena. After being limited to just 11 points and eight assists in the last game, she aimed to make a bigger impact tonight—and she did, but not in a favorable way. At the 8:00 mark of the second quarter, Clark hit Alyssa Thomas’ hand while defending her.

The next moment, Clark was on the ground, seemingly looking for a foul. And this wasn’t the first time she hit the floor in tonight’s game.

Earlier, she had fallen after attempting a shot while the Sun was on defense. While she looked furious, calling for a foul, the Sun’s guard appeared confused. This may be because the guard’s focus was on the ball as it flew out of the 22-year-old’s hands.

These incidents left fans speculating about the Indiana Fever rookie’s performance. No doubt she was as fiery as ever, but her fouls drew significant attention—unfortunately, in a negative way.

The outcome didn’t favor the rookie

While some fans supported her, many accused her of flopping. “Oh my god, this is shameless,” wrote one spectator after reviewing the footage. According to some X users, Clark’s hitting the floor and calling for fouls seemed intentional. This game was crucial for the Fever as it determined their playoff fate. “iT lOokEd iNtEnTiOnAl!” quipped another X user.

Considering playoffs are a bit more physical, a few fouls may be relaxed to maintain the flow. But Clark’s grip on Thomas’ hand appeared to be more “acting” than a legitimate foul. Some fans even compared her to LeBron James, considering the NBA star himself has received his share of heat for “intentional” foul call. Leflop, if one would remember. “She and LeBron must take the same acting class,” one fan wrote.

For many viewers, Clark’s 40 minutes of gameplay simply weren’t pleasant. Though she finished with an impressive 25 points (more than double her Game 1 performance) and nine assists, some were still displeased with her antics. “It’s so annoying watching her play,” another fan added.

Even Fever fans were left laughing as they watched her play. “I love the Fever and Clark, but this made me LAUGHHHH,” one user wrote. However, despite the laughter, the outcome wasn’t favorable for either the Fever or Caitlin Clark. The team suffered an 87-81 defeat against the Sun, resulting in their elimination from their first playoffs since 2016.
