A'ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark are killing it! Should the NBA do more to support the WNBA?

The WNBA is killing it on every front this year. Hence, getting all the fans hyped up for the All-Star game was only fair. However, the women’s basketball followers are not quite satisfied with how the NBA has apparently been keeping the WNBA on the shorter-hand side. Resonating with how successful the 2024 WNBA All-Star Weekend has been, thanks to stars like A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and more, everyone is now tagging the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for the same.

The All-Star game proved to be a heated competition, highlighting the immense talent in the league. At the half-point mark, the rookie’s Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark were leading the game. The Chi-Town Barbie with 7 rebounds and the first overall pick delivering 6 assists. Breanna Stewart on Team USA led everyone with 14 points while her teammate A’ja Wilson had 2 steals.

By the end of the game, Arike Ogunbowale created history with 34 points. So did Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, the rookie All-Star duo. Moreover, Ryan Ruocco of ESPN announced that this year, the WNBA All-Star Weekend has been one of the top searches. Not to miss, the Footprint Arena in Phoenix was sold out long before the voting even started. Indeed, a great year for the WNBA which should be rewarded with better deals. Adam Silver cannot catch a break as Caitlin Clark and Co.’s performance takes over the NBA fans

It is not a new complaint that the NBA fans have been putting forward. According to them, the league no longer has the excitement that it once had. Surprisingly, the case is quite the opposite for the WNBA. As more people are now realizing that women’s basketball also has all the thrills that they are looking for. Still, the league remains a pawn under the NBA. The former will be getting a loaded pie of $72B in media rights deals. But the WNBA is only getting a slice with $2.2B for 11 years. Hence, loyal fans wish for Adam Silver to look at what real competitiveness can be and give the league some credit.

Interestingly though, Adam Silver is present in the Footprint Arena with his daughter and is certainly seeing the growth that the league has had this season. But a fan still went ahead and mentioned how the women are fighting for the win and giving some serious playoff vibes.

“Can someone please have Adam Silver watch this? They’re putting on like a playoff game #WNBAAllStar”

Some women’s basketball followers did not stay behind in throwing shades at Adam Silver. They mentioned how the NBA Commissioner would want his league players to also create an atmosphere like the one at the Footprint Arena and show the fiery sides to the spectators. Remember how Caitlin Clark hypes up the crowd? Another follower simply mentioned how Silver would not be able to sleep tonight after all the temperature-raising performances in Phoenix.

While the NBA All-Star is many months away, maybe Adam Silver will not miss a chance to take on the challenge to outperform the WNBA’s event. As for Caitlin Clark and other WNBA players, the Commissioner certainly is keeping tabs as he also mentioned the rookie, who broke the All-Star rookie assists record, in his previous speeches. Surely, it will be interesting to see if the rumored $2.2B media rights deal gets more profitable for the WNBA after tonight.
