What to expect from Paige Bueckers and co this season?
In her first press conference as a Dallas Wing, Bueckers made it clear that her focus is on building deep, meaningful connections with everyone. She emphasized the importance of creating a foundation for success. “So just building a foundation of really enjoying being around each other, enjoying playing together, enjoying being together off the court, on the court, in all aspects,” Bueckers shared.
It’s clear that fans shouldn’t expect the Dallas Wings to compete for titles right away. After finishing last season with a 9-31 record, only three players have returned. The losses of big names like Natasha Howard and Satou Sabaly will undoubtedly hurt the team.
With Sabally traded to Phoenix and the Wings integrating new talent, they are leaning on fresh faces. Bueckers, who averaged 19.7 points on 52.8% shooting at UConn, is expected to run the point, facilitating plays for Arike Ogunbowale and Teaira McCowan, the latter having secured 8.1 rebounds per game in 2024. DiJonai Carrington’s defensive skills could help improve Dallas’ defense, which allowed 84.2 points per game last season.

But with a mostly new roster, the focus is on how they’ll mesh together. No one really knows how the team will gel, and there are plenty of question marks. Paige Bueckers is spot on when she says this year will be about laying the groundwork for future success. If the Wings manage to make the playoffs this season, it will be a major win in Paige’s first year.
