“I still can’t really believe it.” Satou Sabally shared her excitement before the Olympics on Germany’s first WBB qualification. Undoubtedly, they also performed like the stars that they are. However, the 2024 Summer Games finalist — France — forced them to bid an early adieu to the City of Love in the first knockout round. But for the Dallas Wings star, the journey was just as important as the goal.

Satou Sabally recently took it to her official Instagram account to share her heartfelt emotions in a long letter to her fans. She wrote, “Paris- a place of beauty and inspiration to dream even bigger. Strolling around in the early morning, I still have no words. I feel good about everything but empty from giving my all. The biggest inconvenience: I didn’t feel close enough to the podium. And now I want a medal. Goals are there to be strived for. The journey is what I’ll embrace. It’s given me so much already. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. I’m forever grateful. With Love, SaSa. 2024 Olympic Games”

Certainly, one of the most notorious players, when at full health, did give it her all. Sabally not only led the Deutschland team through the qualifying games in February but also brought them to the quarterfinals. All through this, she was nursing her injured shoulder — suffered during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament — which she got surgically treated. However, while her dream to reach greater heights in the Summer Games was not fulfilled this year, she has another team back in the USA to take care of.

What will Satou Sabally do for the Dallas Wings?

Although on a sabbatical due to her shoulder injury, everyone in the Wings franchise was positive about Sabally’s return. One of the people who looked at the brighter side of things was Greg Bibb, the President of the franchise. Before the 2024 WNBA season started, he spoke up on the young talent’s sooner-than-later return to Dallas. He said, “She’s on schedule with her rehab. We expect Satou to come back around the Olympic break.”

Satou Sabally will be aiding the reigning WNBA All-Star MVP Arike Ogunbowale in trying to pull the team into playoff contention. In the first half of the WNBA season, the Wings have not been able to perform well. They will be taking on the second-best team in the league for their opener– the Connecticut Sun– on August 16. For now, they are at the bottom of the leaderboard with a 6-19 record.

Although Dallas has a rugged road in front of them, Satou Sabally’s presence on the floor will definitely make changes to the team’s image right now. Her previous year’s numbers of 18.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game are a show of potential enough. Not to mention, she is now even more hungry to get back on the WNBA floor and add to the team’s action. It will be interesting to see how the Wings improve further into the season.
