The 2024 WNBA season kicks off tomorrow and the 12 teams are ready for the challenging face-off. Meanwhile, the back-to-back champions have decided to keep Kate Martin on the final roster that will be playing this season.
Meanwhile, the rookie has been busy making rounds in the training camp alongside a brief stint in preseason games. Taking some time in between the hustle, Kate Martin shares her thoughts on securing her spot in the final roster.

As significant as it sounds, Kate’s response makes the moment a memorable one. “I found out a little like a few days ago um and I cried, I cried, I was so excited. I just felt like, you know, a lot of hard work was paying off. Whenever you come into a team like this who are back-to-back world champions, you know you don’t really know what your odds are going to be. And so, I was really proud of myself and I was really happy that I, you know, gave myself the opportunity to uh make the team and be alongside some really great teammates,” says Martin, sharing insights on how she felt when she found out about the update.
She further describes the motivation behind her efforts making to the final roster spot saying, “My motivation was really just coming in working hard every single day. As soon as I set foot in the facility I knew I was around some really cool people, some really great people, um every you know a championship culture. And from that moment on I was like, oh man I want to be a part of this team. And so, I was going to give myself the best opportunity to be a part of this team and uh make the final roster.”
“I really hope to just bring to this team a good culture, um good being a good teammate honestly. Um, obviously they had, we have amazing players, we have star players, Olympic players, you know. My role is going to be a role player and so I want to support my teammates the best that I can every single day,” she adds while elaborating on what kind of role she will be playing on the court.
It is of common knowledge that Kate Martin plans to coach in the future, once her professional career comes to a halt.

Learning from one of the finest WNBA coaches ever
Besides playing among hooping stars, Kate Martin is getting the chance to gather some tricks for the future while she gears up to play under one of WNBA’s legendary coaches, Becky Hammon. Hard to miss, she will also be playing with the some of the W’s finest and championship winning players alongside, acknowledging how fortunate she is to have the opportunity.
Talking about it, Martin shares some insights saying, “I feel like I’ve been extremely lucky throughout my college experience and now my professional experience to be around some really strong female leaders. And, coach Hammon is amazing. She’s obviously one of the best she’s Hall of Famer. And, what I’ve learned really so far is just how amazing she is. Her mindset, the way she comes in, loves working, um she wants to make every single person better in that gym, and she’s just a great leader.”

“It’s been really cool to, you know, gain some knowledge from her, understand the terminology that she uses, and that you know, NBA and WNBA teams use and everything. It’s just really expanding all of my knowledge as well so I can take that into my professional career one day. Um, professional outside of basketball like coaching you know um but yeah it’s been really cool to learn from her so far,” she adds about her association with the Aces coach.
It’s the time to shine for Kate Martin as the season commences with the Aces locking horns with the Phoenix Mercury at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas.
