Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston has set the WNBA world alight ever since she was drafted into the league. As the 1st overall pick, Boston has seamlessly transitioned into a big name after also having quite a successful college career. Suiting up for the South Carolina Gamecocks the 6’5 star was a part of a legendary USC team as they ran rampant in the NCAA women’s division. Winning the NCAA championship in 2022 Aliyah and USC were then undefeated for the entirety of 2023 before losing to Catlin Clark’s Iowa in the Final Four.

Despite the loss, the 2022 champion was still recognized for her sheer brilliance as she was awarded the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and the SEC Player of the Year awards. However, while Boston has made a resounding start to her WNBA career her latest showing against the Chicago Sky was met with scrutiny as she elbowed an opponent before becoming furious at the referee for calling the foul.

Having already made an All-Star appearance in her rookie season, center Aliyah Boston is already evolving into one of the best players in the league. While her acumen continues to grow the 2x SEC POTY was recently under scrutiny as she rocked 6’3 center Elizabeth Williams with a spinning elbow during a recent matchup.

Taking place during a bottom of the table clash between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, Boston who was having a quiet game until when she was seen driving into the paint in the third quarter, before being double teamed by the Chicago Sky defense.

Attempting a spin and drive Aliyah caught Williams on the face before converting the shot which was then called out as an excessive swinging violation by the referee.

This call left the 2022 NCAA champion fuming as she was seen berating the referee in an animated fashion. While she was visibly angry the call was a reflection of the Fever’s performance that night as they slumped to a 96-69 defeat.

Their 26th loss of the season Boston has been the brightest light for the Indiana team this year as the youngster looks set to win the ROTY.

When chosen as the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA draft many fans expected Aliyah Boston to reach the heights that she has this season. Averaging 14.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game Boston has already had an enormous impact in her first season with many touting her as the Rookie of the Year.

Boston’s impressive showing also earned her an All-Star appearance making her the only rookie to make the team this term. While second overall pick Diamond Miller has performed well with the Minnesota Lynx, her impact hasn’t been at the level of Aliyah.

With nasty elbows being thrown all across the WNBA this season, Boston’s most recent mishap shouldn’t be an issue as it is only a matter of time before the 6’5 star is awarded the Rookie of the Year award.
