Is Angel Reese right to call out Caitlin Clark fans, or is she just stirring the pot?

The rookie rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark has ignited some of the season’s hottest debates. What started in the 2023 NCAA title game has only intensified since they both hit the WNBA stage. Although Reese has made it clear that she doesn’t harbor any personal animosity toward Clark, she has recently raised concerns about Clark’s fanbase causing disturbances. Dan Dakich, however, views these claims differently and shares a contrasting perspective.

Appearing on Outkick’s recent episode, sports analyst Dan Dakich addressed Angel Reeses’ revelation about the horrid treatment she received through Clark’s fanbase. It was racism — among many other experiences that the Chicago Sky rookie had pointed out — that Dakich wanted to counter.

“When she starts talking about racism you know what it is. Indiana fans are the best in the country they understand basketball they have cheered on white black you name it and so have Iowa fans but she’s really dumb. This is really easy,” stated Dakich.

The sports commentator also acknowledged that while Angel Reese will undoubtedly gain support for standing up and speaking out, he believes her accusations are completely false “She’ll get a ton of support from people around: ‘oh man you stood up Queen.’ No, you didn’t. You lied, you’re lying, you lied then, you lied now, you’re going to continue to lie,” he concluded.

But as Reese reveals, that wasn’t all she had to endure.

Angel Reese’s allegations on Caitlin Clark’s fanbase

On her very first episode of Unapologetically Angel, the rookie opened up about the rivalry between her and Caitlin Clark. “Caitlin is an amazing player and I’ve always thought she was an amazing player. We’ve been playing each other since high school,” Reese started. This was only a re-confirmation of her healthy dynamic with the Fever for those who have kept up with their views of each other.

Oh my gosh, I love Caitlin. We’ve been competing since we were in AAU,” she had iterated previously while Clark had admitted that the rivalry was only viewed as so intense by the onlookers. “I don’t think Angel should be criticized at all,” she had stood up earlier. Aware of it, Reese expressed her respect for Clark but did not extend it to some fans who have overstepped the boundaries.

“So I think it’s really just the fans — her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans — that are, like, they ride for her and I respect that, respectfully, but sometimes it’s very disrespectful. I think there’s a lot of racism when it comes to it and I don’t believe she stands on any of that.”

The Chicago Sky forward also revealed that beyond online, the situation has escalated to receiving death threats and even being followed to her home on multiple occasions. While Clark has been clear about the sensationalization, admitting mutual respect, the extreme hate Reese revealed, has had fans demanding the Fever rookie address it prominently.
