The Phoenix Mercury is not witnessing the best of times at the start of their 2024 WNBA campaign. In both their pre-season encounters, the franchise has suffered disappointing losses at the hands of the Seattle Storm and the LA Sparks. To talk more about their game, two Mercury stars Kahleah Copper and Kiki Hebert Harrigan interacted with the media post their Sparks game. However, things took a hilarious turn when a journalist asked a specific question.
Both these athletes had no trouble answering any question anyone had to shoot at them. That was until one reporter asked them to comment about the referee’s decisions. Combining it with a surprised look on her face, the former Chicago Sky baller amusingly asked, “Don’t We Get Fined if We Talk About the Referees?” Although it is still not clear what the reporter asked, some suggest that it may be related to the fouls called on them throughout the night. As it turns out, there was a total number of 30 fouls committed altogether by the team.
The 29-year-old was the top scorer for her team. In her 24 minutes, she was able to register 16 points along with 3 assists next to her name. Moreover, she was 5 of 12 from the field and shot 60% of her beyond-the-arc attempts. Also, she had a 100% conversion rate in all her free throws.

Undeniably, the North Philly native is slowly settling into her new franchise. In addition to this, she also reflected on the team’s chances this time a few days earlier.

Kahleah Copper confident in the team’s potential
In an online news conference hosted by the league, Cooper opened up about how the current roster has what it takes to make it big this time around. Talking about the chemistry, she said, “Working on our team chemistry, and I think our team chemistry will be the separation for us. We have championship experience. You know, once you get a taste of that, that’s all you’re really chasing. And I think that having that experience, you understand sacrificing a little bit of yourself for everyone.”

Indeed, the 2021 WNBA champion fancies her chances this season. The combination of youth and experience surely makes the Mercury one of the teams to watch out for this time around. But there are a lot of areas they need to work on if they want to make their dream a reality.
