“I play for the love of sport and not the salary” is what Angel Reese said when asked about the low salary she is apparently getting. But does that really hold true? The Chicago Sky pleasantly shocked the world when they announced their 2024 WNBA draft picks. After selecting Kamilla Cardoso with the 3rd pick, Chicago traded up for the 7th pick, with which they drafted Reese. The two athletes are not just lottery picks but also NCAA rivals. However, they have proven in the preseason outing that they can work together and combine their individual talents to the benefit of their team. But how do the two match in their financial earnings?

As a top-3 pick, Kamilla Cardoso is bound to earn better through her Sky contract. According to Spotrac, the Brazilian Killa Milla has signed a $338,056/ 4-year contract with Chicago. Although it has not been the expected beginning of a rookie year for the 2x National Champion due to injury, she is set to return soon for her team as they try to take down her NCAA rival Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. She will be earning $76,535 in her rookie year. Moreover, her fourth optional year is worth $97,582.

On the other hand, Sky’s second pick from the first round grabbed a deal of $324,383/ 4 years. In her rookie season, the Sky will give her $73,439. Her fourth-year salary will be worth $93,636. But apart from the WNBA contract, the two can also earn through various endorsements, just like they did in college through NIL deals. This will ultimately enhance their earnings and Angel Reese is already making waves in the market.

Angel Reese is slaying the endorsement land

The once NIL queen has now become the Chi-Town Barbie, so the principle of NIL no longer holds for her. Nevertheless, she is still breaking the walls down with endorsements. Currently, she stands atop a net worth of $1.8 million. Moreover, she has joined hands with Amazon, Pepsi, and PlayStation. Not to mention, she has become the face of Reebok’s movement for basketball comeback.

Recently, Angel Reese also gifted the entire Chicago team Beats by Dr. Dre headphones to show her appreciation. This was again in turn possible because she has a deal with the consumer audio products manufacturer. She is also headlining her ties with beauty brands, including the 2024 WNBA draft’s makeup partner Mielle Organics.

Both Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso have done some groundbreaking work to advance women’s sports. So far, their rookie year in the WNBA is also going as smoothly as any. While they have only earned 3 games so far and Cardoso has not exactly made her official debut yet due to the shoulder injury, it is good to see the impact that Angel Reese is making on her team.
