The Indiana Fever’s games with the Chicago Sky are full of controversies and a recent one was no different. During late August when the two teams clashed, the stakes were high as the Fever led by a 2-1 in the regular season against the Sky. Hence, both the teams had cut-throat competition and tried to usurp the other. In one such instance, the Fever forward Aliyah Boston saw Caitlin Clark creating open space for herself, and the former passed the ball while the rookie was on a fast break. But the Sky’s guard Diamond DeShields had other aspirations as she took notice of Clark. In an attempt to stop Clark, DeShields ran after her and nudged her to the ground, which instantly got her a lot of flak from the Clark fans. If that wasn’t enough to certify her as a Clark hater, her tweet from April has resurfaced which has again infuriated Clark’s followers.
In an online thread between DeShields and the Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes, the duo can be seen chalking out plans to stop Clark’s three-pointers when she was in college. “If anyone is reading this… STOP Letting Caitlin Clark GO LEFT TO SHOOT HER THREES my gosh… ESPN even showed a MADE FG visual,” Sykes commented. This caught DeShields’ attention who replied “DAWG” before Sykes substantiated her tweet by enumerating, “The defender in me is screaminggggg dawg I can’t take it anymore lol.” And seeing the latest flak the duo has been getting after their tweets have resurfaced, Sykes tweeted again on Monday.

The tweets were previously in April when Clark was at the top of her prowess in the NCAA. She surpassed the legendary Pete Maravich’s record for all-time highest NCAA D1 scorer and her main weapon was the three-point shooting skills. For her exceptional display, she was often compared to the NBA great Stephen Curry. The Des Moines-born shot 201 out of the 532 three-pointers she attempted, having an exceptional 37.8 % three-pointer shooting percentage that propelled the Hawkeyes to back-to-back NCAA Championship Finales in 2022 and 2023. And to counter her skills, Sykes and DeShields tweeted their take. But as they say, expect the unexpected.

During the third game against the Mystics in July, the Des Moines-born hit 5 three-pointers, scoring 29 points in the process. And from there on, her three-pointer tally has grown so much that she eclipsed Rhyne Howard’s record of 85 three-pointers, the most by a rookie until Clark broke it. As of now, Clark has 120 three-pointers which is significantly ahead of Howard’s record. And the 22-year-old was also complimented for her skill by one of the alleged haters.
Sheryl Swoopes applauds Caitlin Clark for her three-pointer skills
The Indiana Fever were having a tumultuous time at the start of this season. They had a sluggish beginning, losing all 5 of their initial games. However, that changed when the team came back re-energized from the Olympics break. Their head coach Christie Sides suddenly looked to have found the missing team chemistry and from there on, it was a reason to celebrate in 8 out of their next 10 games. And the main weapon behind their offensive spree was Clark’s three-pointers.

Even one of her supposed haters, Sheryl Swoopes came to the fore to opine that the LA Sparks head coach Curt Miller was right in claiming that her shooting from beyond the arc creates open spaces for the rest of the Fever squad. “I think in a post-game press conference when they played the Fever he said something like ‘Caitlin makes it so difficult for you to defend.’ Like not only herself but everybody else right because you have to respect her logo three, which makes you come out. You gotta defend her. But what that does is it opens up the floor for everybody else to be able to create for Kelsey Mitchell to do what she does,” Swoopes stated in agreement with Miller.
And now when fans are boiled up once again after Sykes and DeShields’ tweets have resurfaced, maybe Clark will shut them off by scoring her logo threes in the playoffs.
