Is Angel Reese the new face of women's hoops, or is it just hype?

Angel Reese has been one of the most talked-about rookies this season, making waves with her incredible on-court performances. However, before her WNBA displays, she turned heads left and right in Baton Rouge. The ‘Double-Double Queen’ may not have gotten the better of her NCAA rival Caitlin Clark in the 2024 March Madness, but she surely impacted the game of basketball, with what she started back in 2023. For one, she piqued the interest of this millionaire rapper, who has turned his head towards basketball because of her.

The Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese just dropped the second episode of her podcast ‘Unapologetically Angel’, and this time, she had rapper Polo G as her guest. During their chat, Reese got curious and asked Polo G if he was into basketball or if he had ever watched a women’s basketball game before. To that Polo G responded, “I ain’t going to lie. It, it’s really like, like I’ve been hip to women’s basketball, but it’s like like what y’all had going on in college what really shed more of a light on it to make watch it way more than I did you know.”

Although Angel Reese didn’t come out on top in this year’s March Madness, losing to her Iowa rival Caitlin Clark, the 22-year-old forward made her mark by leading LSU to the NCAA title in 2023. Reese even grabbed headlines with her bold hand gestures toward Clark during the finals, adding fuel to their heated rivalry. She averaged 23 points along with 15 rebounds with LSU in that championship winning season.

Polo G may have started watching basketball because of Reese’s college games, but during their conversation, he also revealed about the very first women’s basketball game he ever watched.

Polo G’s First Women’s Basketball Game

Before jumping into their conversation, the Sky rookie asked Polo G if her game with Chicago was the first time he truly enjoyed women’s basketball. With complete honesty, Polo G quickly replied, “That’s the first one I’ve ever been to.”Just three months ago, Polo G attended the game at Wintrust Arena where the Chicago Sky faced off against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Later, a photo popped up on social media showing the American rapper and the all-smiles rookie player, Angel Reese. Well, she didn’t have a best of an outing in that game as she scored six points and grabbed as many rebounds. Although, the Chicago Sky secured a win against the Sparks with a score of 83-73 what was Polo G’s first experience watching a women’s basketball game.

Well, the LSU alum has recently been forced out of the remaining season as she picked a wrist injury against Sparks itself. Nevertheless, Angel Reese’s remarkable influence extends beyond the court, inspiring both fans and celebrities like Polo G. Despite a season cut short by injury, her legacy of captivating performances and breaking barriers continues to shape the future of basketball.
