Roster changes are in full swing across the league despite the season almost halfway done. The very first victim of this phase for Chicago became the veteran guard Kysre Gondrezick. On Friday afternoon, the team announced that they are waiving the fourth overall pick from 2021. The primary reasoning behind it was the team’s lack of defensive capabilities. While she had been a fan-favorite alongside Angel Reese, the 26-year-old was shown the door. Hence, with this star talent becoming a free agent now, which team can possibly bring her in?

Ever since she was in West Virginia, Kysre Gondrezick became popular among basketball fans. As much as the credit for this goes to her on-court skills where she dropped 19.5 points and 4.5 assists per game in her last season for the Mountaineers, her fashion sense helps her case as well. In fact, Indiana selected her fourth in the 2021 WNBA draft to overcome their shortcomings.

In that time, she received the comparative attention that Caitlin Clark, the golden goose of the Fever, is receiving now. In her rookie season, Gondrezick also joined hands with Adidas, inking a multi-year endorsement deal with the athleisure mogul. But after playing only 19 games and averaging 1.9 ppg, the hooper stepped away from the court.

She returned to the league as a part of the Sky earlier this year. The franchise signed a training camp contract with her early in February this year and later converted it into a non-guaranteed roster contract. However, she only played 3.2 minutes in 5 games for Teresa Weatherspoon and averaged 1 ppg before the layoff. While she has not had much luck in the professional grounds, there are a few things that she still brings to the table.

Which team will take a bet on Kysre Gondrezick?

If we look at her records in West Virginia, the Miami native brings a mix of shooting and playmaking abilities. In her 3 seasons in Morgantown, she averaged 16 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.3 rebounds. She also led the team for two of those seasons in average points and assists. Indiana first drafted Kysre Gondrezick to ease Kelsey Mitchell in the backcourt and also help Julie Allemand by facilitating plays.

Hence, now with Caitlin Clark leading the charge for the Fever, Gondrezick’s addition to the team could be fruitful. She will help in scoring as well as playmaking alongside the current leading 3-point shooter of the league. The only problem there is that they have a full roster with 12 active players.

Apart from her first team, three other teams who are going through injury woes might take a chance at her talents. These are the LA Sparks, Washington Mystics, and Dallas Wings. Of these, the first two definitely need something to pull them out of their losing streaks. While the Wings carry the star power of Arike Ogunbowale, three missing players are not helping their case.

Definitely, Kysre Gondrezick will be bringing eyes to whichever team she gets selected into. The only question that remains is which one will want her, especially when in the professional league, she has not shown her true potential yet.
