Fans were excited on Friday as they saw Team USA dominate the Opals by an 85-64 margin and make their way to the Finals. Despite Team USA star A’ja Wilson dominating the game with 10 points and 8 rebounds, the Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green shared his dislike for Team USA for their treatment of WNBA rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.

Green was present in the Draymond Green Show when he expressed his dissatisfaction with Clark and Reese’s snub. “I think Caitlin Clark should have been on this team. It’s great for the brand and let’s not…We talk brand any other time. Let’s not act like it don’t matter now…The W is there (referring to the initial stages) and so she is the global star in women’s basketball and listen, I think the women we got over there. I think, A’ja Wilson… is going to be the goat. But, from a pure branding and marketing standpoint Caitlin is the biggest.”

Clark’s emergence has seen an exponential 889% increase in the projected revenue for the Indiana Fever. Plus, most of her home games have been sellouts. This year’s WNBA All-Star game also became one of the highest average viewership All-Star games with 3.44 million viewers. Thus, Clark’s emergence in the W has been watched by her loyal fans and it has brought women’s basketball at the center of the debate. Meanwhile, Green also backed for Reese’s inclusion.

“I think what they are doing for women’s basketball, that should matter (referring to Clark and Angel Reese). And by the way what they showed you in this half a season is that I’m going to be one of the ones,” Green added via The Draymond Green Show.

When it comes to skills, both Reese and Clark have been flawless. While Reese scored 15 consecutive double-doubles, breaking Candace Parker’s record, Clark broke Courtney Vandersloot’s record of most assists in a single game in the W. During her double-double streak, Reese averaged a whopping 15.3 points with 13.2 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Clark scored 19 assists during a game against the Dallas Wings in July surpassing Vandersloot’s 18 assists. Therefore, the two are doing great not only in popularity but also in the games. Hence, when Clark couldn’t make the Team USA roster even celebrated entrepreneur Dave Portnoy sided with the 22-year-old.

On his podcast BFFs: Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards & Bri Chickenfry, Portnoy stated that Clark’s snub has caused “the worst ratings, I think, of any Women’s Basketball team” in the Olympics. He also mentioned that other games were gaining more traction instead of women’s basketball.

However, Clark’s critics point out that the major reason for not including Clark and other rookies was that they couldn’t attend the Olympics practice camp in April as they were busy prepping for their NCAA games. On top of that, there are rumors that the USA selection committee wanted a veteran team.

Hopefully, Clark and Reese will not take the exclusion to their heart and, instead, will rejoice if Team USA wins the gold. As for Green, perhaps, his wishes will be fulfilled in the next Olympics when Team USA might include Clark and Reese.
