Dawn Staley doesn’t miss any chance to hype up her former players. The South Carolina Gamecocks coach previously sent Kamilla Cordoso an emotional message when the Sky player made her debut after an injury layoff. While the whole world’s attention is on the Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese matchup, Staley was more hyped to see her former students face off. However, she faced a technical difficulty as she is currently enjoying her holidays.

She took to X and expressed that she was unable to watch the game live as she was in Milan and was only able to see the score updates. The Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky game has dominated the headlines due to the Clark vs Reese matchup. Yet for Dawn Staley, the focus is on her former players, Kamilla Cardoso, who had already taken 10 rebounds at the halfway mark, and Aliyah Boston.

The only way for me to tune into the @chicagosky @IndianaFever game is the espn app…..score only. I’m in Milan….my VPN will not be tricked into showing local stations. @Kamillascsilva eating rebs!!!

The game eventually ended 91-83 in Indiana’s favor as Boston had a brilliant outing, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. On the other side, Cardoso finished the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The former South Carolina teammates went at each other throughout the night, which resulted in a great matchup between the two centers.

While criticism and underhanded shots have dominated the headlines when these two teams have faced off, Cardoso and Boston provided a beautiful moment after the game, which Staley also loved.

Dawn Staley is proud of seeing her former students kill it in the WNBA

After the game, Boston sent a selfie with Cardoso to her former coach, leaving her emotional. Staley uploaded the picture on X, writing, Just got this from @aa_boston….they tore into each other but it is all love. I got a chance to witness that for two years. Oh hey @Kamillascsilva @WNBA you’re welcome!”

Even though there is no love lost between the two teams, there are some relationships that the budding rivalry can’t kill. The legendary head coach must be so proud of the two NCAA champions killing it on the big stage in front of thousands of fans. While Cardoso is still settling in after an injury-curtailed start to her pro career, Boston has been dominating as the Fever have now won 4 out of their last 6 games.

The two teams will again face off in a week but this time around, the game will be in Chicago. After the Fever won both matchups against the Sky in Indiana, Chicago will be hoping to get one over them. Let’s hope the two teams continue to provide the excitement going forward.
