Is Dave Portnoy right to back Caitlin Clark over Angel Reese? Whose side are you on?

Every time Caitlin Clark hits the hardwood, she makes sure it’s worth watching. Against the Seattle Storm, in a home game, everything was going well until the third quarter, when the young gun had no choice but to plead to multiple officials. Obviously, she wasn’t happy with their sudden decision, but nothing could change reality and the rookie seemed to have become a victim of her own outspoken and expressive demeanor, again. That’s when Dave Portnoy stepped into the scene.

After the game, he took to his official X account and wrote, “Ref should be suspended or fired tbh.” On Sunday afternoon, Caitlin Clark hit the padding on the base of the basket in frustration after attempting to sink a deep three. Though it wasn’t really a big deal, it became one when officials handed Clark her 5th technical foul. Sad but true. According to the refs, the Indiana Fever rookie’s actions were “disrespectful to the game of basketball.” How else would you expect the rookie’s fans to respond?

Sure enough, Portnoy is agitated by the official’s unfair decision. But he’s not the only person criticizing; even the youngster herself wasn’t really satisfied with the ref’s response. She’s now only two fouls short of suspension, that’s probably why she spoke to multiple officials about the matter, and it even led to a big disagreement between the head coaches on the sidelines.

In the end, Caitlin Clark understood it was invalid, and there was a reason behind that. “It’s just because I’m a competitor and I felt like I should have been making more shots. But I think he fired me up to continue to play a lot harder. I think we got a lot better after he did that. So, I want to thank him for that!” she revealed post-game. Coming back to Portnoy, this isn’t his first time taking a stand for Caitlin Clark. In fact, he once ridiculed her arch-rival, Angel Reese.

Two months ago in June, when Caitlin Clark faced off against Angel Reese, Dave Portnoy grabbed the opportunity. After the game, he once again used his X account and shared a clip of Bayou Barbie. Alongside the video, he wrote, “I didn’t even see this. Angel Reese is such a clown. Yet she loses to Caitlin yet again.”

Have an interesting take?

For context, it was a nail-biter between the two sides. Clark wasn’t having the best game and was suddenly brought down by one of Reese’s teammates aggressively. As the ref stopped play, the Fever rookie’s NCAA rival could be seen taunting her by clapping from the sidelines, engaging in banter, hyping up the scene.

A couple of days ago, Portnoy even posted New York Liberty vs. Indiana Fever stats, where he compared Breanna Stewart and Caitlin Clark. “Who is the rookie of the year again? Casual triple-double,” he wrote. Once again, the American businessman was seen flaunting the WNBA young gun’s historic triple-double, 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds, which made her the first-ever rookie to do so. For sure, Clark is already the Rookie of the Year winner in Portnoy’s eyes.
