“It was just kind of easy how it all worked out, you know,” Connor McCaffery once said. And that feels about right. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned watching Caitlin Clark dominate the court, it’s that she has this magical way of making most amazing things look effortless. Turns out, love was no different. What started as a few casual hangouts and “just friends” vibes turned into the kind of college love story that belongs in a movie. Emotional, genuine, and just…so them.

Now, it’s been two whole years. On Thursday, Caitlin shared a sweet anniversary post that had fans swooning. “Another year with my favorite person 🙂 I’m so thankful for you 🖤🖤,” she wrote. The Indiana Fever star dropped two black-and-white pics of her and McCaffery—who’s now coaching at Butler—to mark the occasion.

One photo showed her hugging him courtside as the crowd cheered her on post-game, and the other had the two curled up together, basketball game on in the background. Could it be more perfect? Because that’s exactly how their story began. Two hoopers. One campus. Same love for basketball. Both repping Iowa. Clark lit it up on the court, and McCaffery held it down for the Hawkeyes too. It was like a little love letter written by the basketball gods.

CC was the one who made it IG official, dropping a boat pic of the two that had fans in full detective mode. The couple started dating back in April 2023, when both were still in college.  While Clark went on to break records and shake the world as a Hawkeye, McCaffery was also doing his thing. After graduating in 2023, he got a gig with the Indiana Pacers but later took up a coaching spot with Butler’s men’s basketball team. And through all of it, their relationship grew stronger.

On their first anniversary, it was McCaffery who posted with sweet words. “One year w the best… doing life w u has been easy… can’t wait to watch u live out ur dreams in person. love you,” he wrote. And he meant it. Through every buzzer-beater and record-breaker, he was right there, courtside, cheering his woman on as she changed women basketball.

Fans loved every moment of it. And they have been the forever favorites. Even on the post, most fans were quick with the heart emojis and cute comments. But then came those fans. The die-hards. The ride-or-dies. The ones who love Caitlin so much, they’re basically on full-time protective bestie duty.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Connor McCaffery handle the pressure of dating a basketball GOAT like Caitlin Clark?

Caitlin Clark fans go wild on her anniversary post

One dropped the classic, Is he bothering u? Let me know. If you’ve been online, you know that’s internet code for “We got you, girl.” The last time we saw this one spammed? Yes, Cameron Brink’s engagement post with her longtime boyfriend Ben Felter. Just like Clark, she’s a fan favorite—gorgeous and talented. So naturally the replies were filled with playful jealousy and protective vibes.

Then another chimed in with So can he fight? 😤—a comment both hilarious and kinda telling. Because Caitlin’s fanbase shows up. Fever’s attendance last year was more than double of any other franchise—proof her supporters are serious. But we’ve also seen the, well, haunting side. Remember when Chennedy Carter was aggressively confronted outside her hotel after fouling Clark? Some folks take the “ride or die” energy very literally. So all in all, this particular comment was a fun way to say that they adore her so much and are ready to even fight her own boyfriend for her.

A third added, Please break up with him 🙏🏻 give me a chance. It came from a woman. So probably a joke. Probably. But look, Clark’s straight, in a happy, healthy relationship, and this ship isn’t sinking. Though a whole different squad in the comments started begging Connor to propose. After all, CC’s friend and Fever teammate Lexie Hull just got engaged, and fans clearly want Clark to be next.

A fourth fan couldn’t help themselves, commenting ref do something 💔 about that cozy courtside hug pic. It was a playful cry as if refs could step in to break up the moment like it’s game time. And then someone else said, “@connor_m30 you winning bro lol.” Fair.  Because as much as Connor supports Clark—showing up, cheering her on—she’s done the same. In the W offseason, she literally became a Bulldogs fan and was spotted at Butler games, rocking team gear, all in for her guy.
