Team USA has been dominating in the women’s 5×5 events. However, the same could not be said for the 3×3 counterpart. The team, led by Hailey Van Lith, lost their first three games. Nevertheless, the players have finally found their feet and chemistry in Paris. They have now won three consecutive games and currently occupy the 4th spot ahead of the last game against China. Hence, after giving everyone a harrowing sight of possibly losing the gold, the group’s return also won everyone’s hearts.
The official X account of Bleacher Report recently shared the story of the 3×3 National team and their valor comeback. They tweeted, “USA women’s 3×3 team have won 3 in a row after losing first 3 games 🇺🇸👀 Still have a chance to win gold 🥇”

Previously, Hailey Van Lith came under scrutiny repeatedly for not being great at defense. The fans rained fire on the young player after the team’s 13-17 loss to Germany. In the Olympic opener, the TCU star had a team-high 6 points. Since then, the team has rounded up the record at 3-3 with one more pool game remaining. Now, it is the analysts who wish to see a better outcome and are missing Cameron Brink for her skills in the paint. But the fans have certainly mellowed down on the group.
Hailey Van Lith and Team USA remind fans about their mentality. “It’s not done till it’s over”
Team USA in the 3×3 event did not have the start they would have liked. Nevertheless, they are scripting their story to match an ending that would definitely meet their target for the Olympics. That is, of course, winning a gold. The team has won in the last three games with an average difference of 2.6 points. Of these three, they performed best against Spain, handing them a 17-11 defeat.
Hence, the fans love how Hailey Van Lith is leading the team. One fan could not help but mention that everyone can anticipate a gold already. However, there is a long run in front of Team USA to reach the gold. For now, they have one more pool game remaining. After which, they have the play-in, semifinal, and medal rounds. One thing that could certainly help Team USA is the fact that they now already know each team and can create personalized strategies for each country. Right now, we can certainly celebrate the turning tides.
“Comeback story brewing. Gold incoming,” commented one fan while another wrote, “Smell a comeback.”
The chemistry of the teammates is also an essential factor to help win a game. It is important to note that Hailey Van Lith is still in college. Dearica Hamby and Rhyne Howard are the only two active WNBA players. Hence, building a bond and understanding what the team can really do takes time. Something that the team did not get before the Olympics. Hence, one fan commented the same as they understood what these players are doing out there in La Concorde.
“They just needed a few games to gain chemistry. These are 5v5 players that got put together last second”
Resonating with the above comment, coordination, and teamwork also only lay results once the players understand the abilities of their peers. Moreover, it is the fighting spirit of Team USA that keeps them coming for more. Individually as well, each and every player on this roster is a relentless basketball player who is lifting their respective team to better positions. Hence, they of course can try to win a gold.
“Great teamwork and coordination…it’s not done till it’s over”
Out of all the players, Hailey Van Lith has the most experience in international 3×3 format. Surely, she has aided the team as much as she can. Hence, one women’s basketball follower commented how incredibly she was working on the floor. While she may have lost the offensive touch for now, everyone would hope for her to do better in the upcoming competitions.
