A coach was once a player. In team games like basketball where coaches dictate much of the strategy, they are as excited for the games as the players. The Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever match witnessed one such moment when the Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon got extremely involved in the game. Weatherspoon was communicating with the ESPN commentators through a mic when the Fever came close to potting a basket.

The ball was with Caitlin Clark who passed it on to Erica Wheeler who was near the wings. Weatherspoon instructed her players to keep screening Wheeler. As a result, the ball was passed to a player near the free-throw lane. The Sky still kept on trying their best to screen and rebound if the situation arose. Then, the Fever passed the ball to the edge of the court from where the attack was neutralized. All the while, Weatherspoon instructed her players aggressively. Her bawl at Angel Reese and Co. definitely provided them with the trick to end the Fever’s attack.

“Go! Caitlin! Hold right there. Hold right there. Good. Stand right there. Stand right there. That’ll will be…will be…That’s it. That’s it,” Weatherspoon was heard saying.

The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky were positioned at a 17-14 tally. While the Fever looked to lead the game, the Sky weren’t far off. And it is these instructions by the coaches that actually help the players understand their next moves. Her reactions reminded the viewers of her days from the New York Liberty where she played for 6 years from 1997 to 2003. Meanwhile, fans were also excited to see Weatherspoon give her best.

Fans in awe of Teresa Weatherspoon

“So instead of hearing T Spoon talking to ESPN on the sidelines, we got 20 seconds of the best coaching audio. I would run through a wall for Teresa Weatherspoon,” one fan stated. The user would have tweeted this since Weatherspoon looked as invested as the Sky players and she was in full passion motivating her fans to be as excited for the game.

After hearing Weatherspoon, netizens accepted that the mid-game interviews sometimes obstructed the coach due to diverted attention. But was quick to remark that Weatherspoon should be doing more of them. “I motion we get rid of live game WNBA coaching interviews but we give Teresa Weatherspoon a live mic for all 40 minutes every Sky game.”

Another follower was in awe of Weatherspoon’s involvement in the game. “teresa weatherspoon amazes me. she basically time traveled back to the wnba from the year 2000 aaaand she just broke the 4th wall of espn in-game interviews, this woman is so powerful.” Breaking the fourth wall is a powerful tool in the media field and Weatherspoon just did that.

One fan went as far as saying that this was the greatest in-game interview. Most probably, the fan remarked this since in-game interviews are done to know the mind of the coach and Weatherspoon with her words just gave a glimpse of it. “Teresa Weatherspoon greatest in game interview of all time,” a fan said.

A balling fan also noticed that while mostly during in-game interviews, coaches want to speak to the commentators, Weatherspoon might have subtly ignored the media. “Teresa Weatherspoon wants nothing to do with this interview lmao,” read the comment.
