Is Teresa Weatherspoon the secret weapon behind Chennedy Carter's rising success in the WNBA?

Chicago Sky’s games continue to be a Barbie-Chenn showdown. On one hand, Angel Reese continues to dazzle the spectators with her paint action and the continuing double-double streak. On the other, Sky’s superstar Chennedy Carter ensures a win after coming off of a flagrant foul on Jewell Loyd. In the last five Chicago games, she has been the team’s top scorer. They have won 3 of those 5. This is exactly what she did today as she helped grab a sweeping 78-69 win over the Atlanta Dream. Hence, when it comes to commending the guard, the Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon does not limit her feelings for the vet.

In her postgame press conference, T-spoon praised Chennedy Carter by saying, “One thing about Chenn, actually spoke about this to her yesterday, is she’s coachable. That’s why you see what you see. I coach Chennedy hard. I coach her extremely hard because I can. She responds. She responds to it because she knows I’m not asking her something to do that she can’t do.”

Giving the rest of the WNBA a challenge, the head coach further adds, This is a guard you’re looking at right here. You can do anything. She does whatever she wants to out there and it’s hard to stop it. So, I coach her hard because I want nothing but greatness from her every night.” Ending the presser, she concluded, “I’m just gonna tell you guys this again. You can write it, you can print it, you do whatever you want to– that’s our star right there!”

It is certainly amazing to see how Teresa Weatherspoon builds the hunger and confidence in her players. What is even more special is that the guard reflects it all in her game. Here is how Chennedy Carter amazed her head coach.

Chennedy Carter holds the reigns for the Sky

Although not her best figures this season, Chennedy Carter still helped boost Chicago over Atlanta with her 19 points for the night. Of these, she made 8 points in the very first quarter to bring her team closer to the Dream’s 22-point lead. For the game, she did a little bit of everything. Carter went 9 of 21 from the field and 1 of 2 from the deep to cap her night with 19 points. The 25-year-old hooper also helped the team with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

Further, she blocked Naz Hillmon’s layup in the intense back-and-forth third quarter. Additionally, her final quarter steal, which came at just 57 seconds left in the game, gave the Sky the lead for good. She stole the ball from Haley Jones and finished the run to give Chicago a 3-point lead. The game ended with the Sky successfully keeping the Dream from making any shots and going on an offensive run themselves.

Have an interesting take?

Overall, Chicago kept the visitors 6 points lower than their average of 75.5 per game. With the home win, the Sky bounced back over the Indiana Fever to return to the 7th spot in the league’s standings. Surely, Chennedy Carter played a huge role in this victory and Weatherspoon giving her the flowers is only fair.
